I can see clearly now...

ADVERTORIAL

Do you know that in Singapore, 15% of our preschoolers, 33% of our primary one students and more than 70% of our youths who are completing their university education are myopic?

Wow, I don't want to be squinting my eyes no more.

Yes, taking good care of my eyes are going to be a huge problem for Daddy & Mummy to fret over, considering my academic work is only going to increase when I enter Primary School.

But at least if I am going to spend long nights poring over my books deep into the night, I know I can count on a friend.

I call him Mr. Giraffe, 'cos he's got a long bendy neck. Hee hee... Well, he's actually a lamp. But he's no ordinary lamp, he's a Polarizing Light from 3M™.

Traditional lighting causes glare thats results in eye fatique, headache and even, frequent tearing. And currently, all types of light tubes don't solve the problem of glare. In fact, the glare of some table lamps may worsen because of the inappropriate material used for the shading screen. Aiyoh!

So that's where my Mr. Giraffe comes in... The 3M™ patented Polarizing Light Filter Technology is capable of solving this problem of glare. It allows only comfortable light to pass through and converts all bad light into comfortable light!

Talk about having someone or something to watch over me. Heh.

Just take a look at the difference at how my homework looks like under normal lighting and under the 3M™ Polarizing Light.

Oh my, the left hand side is what I call bad bad light! Light that isn't friendly to my eyes. Hmmm... maybe I can use that as an excuse not to do my homework? :P

But with the 3M™ Polarizing Light, because the light becomes more illuminating, and yet remains soothing and comfy, it doesn't take a light to go off in my head to tell me that my eyes are well taken care of.

And of course, my work is done in doubly quick time! Hee.

All thanks to Mr. Giraffe!

Well, Daddy & Mummy know that having the Polarizing Light isn't the be all and end all solution to myopia. Forming good daily eye care habits help too:

- Spend less time on unnecessary near work - activities that require you to focus on small details or are done very close to to your eyes

- Let your eyes rest after every 30-40 minutes of near work.

- Sit in a correct and comfortable posture when you are at your desk.

- Ensure there is sufficient ambient lighting in the room.

- Maintain an eye distance of 30-40cm away from your reading materials.

- If your desk surface is too reflective (e.g. glass), cover it with a less reflective material.

- Ensure that there is even illumination on reading materials.

- Invest in a table lamp which reduces glare while providing ample lighting.

- When using table lamp at night, ensure that the room's main light is turned on too.

- Too much contrast in lighting will cause eyes to tire easily.

- The head of your table lamp should be installed above your line of vision to avoid direct glare.

And hopefully, di-di & me will be able avoid the fate that befell Daddy & Mummy - wear spectacles!!! :P

If you want to see the lamp for yourself, I remember fiddling with it at a Best Denki shop before. Oh, Daddy says that Popular bookstore, Carrefour, Home-Fix & Challenger sell it too. You may want to go down to take a look soon, 'cos a TravelPac™ backpack worth $79 is being given away FREE with every purchase of selected 3M™ Polarizing Light! But hurry, the promotion ends on 31st July 2010, or when stocks run out.

To infinity & beyond!

No comments :
Thanks to nuffnang, Daddy, kor-kor & I watched the Gala Premiere of Toy Story 3 last night at The Cathay! This was certainly an early surprise treat for all fo us (Daddy included) 'cos we didn't expect to catch it so soon, as much as we were dying to watch it (Daddy included too!).

In fact, we were so eager to watch it that we were all prepared to be made into Action Figures just so that that we can be with our fave characters - Buzz & Rex for kor-kor and Woody & Mr. Potatohead for me! Hee.

Those are definitely Limited Edition figurines I tell you. MISB somemore ah.

As for the show, what can we say? It was utterly brilliant! I think kor-kor & I went through a roller coaster of emotions - sometimes laughing out loud, while sometimes grabbing Daddy's arm during anxious moments.

Our rating for Toy Story 3? Five out of five. Daddy included. :)

Toy Story 3 is coming!

No comments :
All thanks to Daddy, di-di & I got acquainted with the cartoon, Toy Story. Yup, the first cartoon which Daddy said came out in 1995... gosh, a good 10 years before I was born!!!

And being a fan himself, Daddy was quite the toy collector in his younger days too. Hahaha... just like this Buzz Lightyear toy that I posed with.

YES, the toy isn't a new toy that is bought from Toys 'R' US... it IS FIFTEEN years old! I think I have to call him Buzz Lightyear kor-kor lor... hahaha...

And I think by now you would have guessed it that Buzz is my fave character from the cartoon, and Daddy very nicely agreed to let me open the dusty & yellow-tinted box! WOOHOO!

Can you tell how happy I was? Hee hee...

As for di-di, his fave character is Mr. Potatohead, the vegetable with the ever-changing facial expression.

Di-di just loves to re-arrange his face using all the different parts... hmmm... maybe he wants to be a plastic surgeon when he grows up? Hahaha...

We had a great time playing with our fave characters... and I even inscribed our names onto Buzz's feet! Just like Andy.

And with the new Toy Story 3 movie coming out very soon, I just can't wait to catch Woody, Buzz and their friends in action once more. In the meantime, I just have to make do with this trailer.

And now, I have to go perfect my favourite scene in the trailer - the part where Buzz goes flying through the air to save his friends!

And remember, catch Toy Story 3 Movie starting from 17th June 2010 and join the official Facebook and Twitter page!

Doggie Power

No comments :
They say a dog is a man's best pal, but how do they exactly help us in our daily lives? Well, di-di & I got the chance to find out when we paid a visit to the Police K-9 Dog unit.

And those are some smart dogs!!! They can help the policeman catch bad people, obey commands and also sniff out dangerous items from suspicious-looking boxes. Now if only I had a nose like that.

And when it was time for audience participation, I gamely volunteered.

For what? Tug-o-War, that's what!

The dogs were really strong leh... all of us were pulled over effortlessly over to the other side. Erm, so of course we kids demanded a rematch lah. And this time we were better prepared.

HAHAHAHA... yah, we played cheat. :P So many children of course we won lah. Can you spot di-di? Kekekeke...

Then we were taken on a tour of the dogs' sleeping quarters and also where they took their baths. We were also given the opportunity to get really close to the doggies. But before we could do that, we had to undergo the sniff test.

Occupational hazard, me think. Hahaha...

But the dogs were all very friendly, and I loved taking photos with all of them!

Well, as for di-di, the fake smile was a dead giveaway. Definitely a bit apprehensive. Hee hee.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip out to the K-9 Dog unit... makes me even want to have my own doggie now. :P

Transformers... in Farmers' Market???

No comments :
Yesterday, di-di & I went to a new market in Singapore... no no, not the kind of wet markets but a very different market that both of us had never been before here.

It's the Farmers' Market at Loewen Gardens (Tanglin Village), which is open only on the first Saturday of every month from 9am to 2pm.

It has stalls selling many interesting stuff that you don't usually find in a supermarket, ranging from organic vegetables, wine, meat, cheese and bread.

Yummylicious if you ask me... and di-di even got a free flower from the very nice flower lady. :P

There were even toys for us to try out... erm, which kept us very very occupied while Daddy & Mummy went browsing. Hee.

I even had a serving of paella, or Spanish rice, which was loaded with squid, prawns & clams! Shiok I tell you! In the end, Daddy & Mummy only had a mouthful each while di-di & I polished off the rest. :P

Then we headed off to Plaza Singapura to welcome some robots to Singapore...

The Transformers! And as you can see, di-di even got onto the stage to learn some Autobot moves as well. Go di-di!

Then both Bumblebee & Optimus Prime made their long-awaited appearance...

And before they transformed & rolled out, we grabbed the opportunity to have a snapshot with them.

With that, our bodies were fast running out of energon too... item to head on home and nap in the car. Heh.

Painting at the Flyer

No comments :
2 weeks back, our weekly art class celebrated its birthday by conducting the class at the Singapore Flyer... so of course kor-kor & me were extremely excited about it!

Well, not only excited about the art that we were going to be doing but also the one trip up the Flyer as well, with all my classmates! Daddy & Mummy didn't follow us, 'cos they had better things to do...erm, like shopping. :P

Anyway, we had a ball of a time, both in class and up there in the clouds. Just check out the mess we are in after the class! Hee hee...

And kor-kor's masterpiece?

Yup, that's his contribution... all the artworks will be combined to form a giant wall to be exhibited at the Flyer.

The smaller kids (like me), were grouped into teams and tasked to complete a giant Flyer painting...

Swee?

Now we just have to make a trip back there to view our combined artworks. :)
