Sydney: The Beginning

(Daddy blogs)

It has been close to 2 months since we got back from Sydney and all of us are still reeling from the withdrawal symptoms of our holiday. With the boys taking a very keen interest in reading this blog now, they have been quizzing me endlessly on when I am going to start documenting our Sydney getaway.

To get them off my back In the spirit of reminiscence, I had begun the arduous journey of selecting and editing our photo memories of the trip and this our story.

We flew to Sydney during the June School Holidays with Scoot and the flight journey was - thank goodness! - pretty uneventful. If you are a parent yourself, that is possibly the best scenario that one can hope for given any flight itinerary. At least we didn't have to administer that bottle of cough syrup.

Both the wife and I love night flights so it was a blessing that the Sydney flight was at night, which meant that our kids slept through more than three-quarters of the flights. Pure bliss!

Arrival in Sydney would see us hurriedly putting on over sweaters due to the winter season. It was a cool 15 degrees when we first arrived - I absolutely loved it though the wifey would beg to differ - but it would get a little chillier over the next couple of days.

As with all vacations, a good lodging can often prove to make or break a holiday. And thankfully enough, we got an awesome accommodation in the form of Quay West Suites Sydney, thanks to Destination New South Wales.

Yes, with a kick-ass view to boot too!

With such a splendid view overlooking the Sydney Harbour, Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, it is no wonder that Quay West Suites Sydney is superbly situated in the historic Rocks area. In fact, it is within easy walking distance of the train station and cruise ferries at Circular Quay.

We had the Two-bedroom Apartment Harbour view suite, which came with an absolutely spacious living room.

More importantly though, the suite came with a fully equipped kitchen!

The one gripe I have about Australia is eating out can get really pricey, even more so when you are dining out with a family of 5! Obviously there are no hawker centres for me to satisfy my char kway teow craving so one of the first things that we usually do after landing in Australia is to pay the nearest supermarket a visit, just so that we can cook some of our meals there.

Bedrooms-wise, the suite came with one bedroom with a king bed with the second bedroom having twin beds  - just perfect for the entire family.

They even provided a cot for Ale too, but it ended being used as a plaything rather than for sleeping. Lol.

The two bathrooms were spotless and spacious as well, with one of the bathrooms having a bathtub.

Having a washing machine and dryer in the suite was a god-send too, because it meant that we could lug lesser clothes to Sydney and save on luggage space!

Overall, our stay was flawless - we had all the amenities we required, the size of the suite was immense , the staff were very accommodating and the location was great. After all, how can anyone not love admiring the alluring night view of the city every night?

And waking up to a stupendous view of the magnificent Sydney Harbour every single morning as well.

Oh and speaking of every single morning, did I mention the fantastic buffet breakfast spread too?

The pained look on Ash's face in the above photo can be largely attributed to posing for a photo on an empty stomach. And there was no way I could fault him, especially with this instant pancake machine screaming out to all of us.

It turned out that the monkies all loved the pancakes the most and with a truly authentic honey source, it didn't come as a complete surprise.

So no surprise too, that the monkies looked forward to breakfast time every single morning with great relish over our 4 nights at Quay West Suites Sydney.

Nothing like a good start to the morning for all our activities over the next few days!

Stay tuned!

Hi there,

Love your blog for your activities for the kids! This blog has been a very useful resource for me to plan activities for my kids (One 5 yr old and One 1 yr old)!

Thanks for the extensive write-up on your trip to Sydney. In fact your write-up has made me decide on Sydney as our next holidays destination.

Can you share with me your day-to-day itinerary? How many days did you visit Sydney in all?

Did you stay overnight at Blue Mountains?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Hi Cheerios Mummy,

Wow, that's great to hear! I'm sure you and your family will have loads of fun!

We stayed 4 nights in Sydney - visited Luna Park, Taronga Zoo, Pwerhouse Museum, Bondi Markets, Sydney Fish Markets.

We stayed one night at Mowbray Farm too. you should if you have the time!

And 2 nights at Blue Mountains as well - we visited the 3 Sisters, Jenolan Caves and Scenic World. We stayed at Katoomba Falls Holiday Park. I will strongly recommend at least one night's stay at Blue Mountains.

Hope it helps!
