7 Phrases my Kids say that make me go Nuts

(Daddy blogs)

Let's face it - as Dads and Mums, we put up with a lot of crap every day. But don't get me wrong. I love my monkies to death although admittedly, they have sometimes managed to get under my skin by saying the most darnedest of things... phrases that can bring me down to my knees. Or rather, my knees to my chest as I enter the fetal position and weep uncontrollably.

7. I’m Bored, What Can I Do

I can’t walk without tripping over a toy in my house. I have stocked the bookshelf to the brim with the most engaging and fun story books. That Wii console AND iPad had morphed into my monkies' personal game system. So why do they still go on with the “I’m Bored, What Can I Do” chant???

6. But I’m Not Tired

Nothing to do? Fine, then go to bed I say. But this only serves to illicit another response. And even though they are evidently in danger of falling asleep while standing, they remain defiant to the very end.

5. I Didn’t Even Do Anything

The moment I hear this, someone has definitely done something! And it usually begins with someone crying, mostly Ale. She will be the one to start pointing fingers, her two brothers will go into a state of denial of doing nothing... all these point to a sure sign that something definitely has been done.

4. Are We There Yet?

Does this really need any explanation? Sigh.

3. I Have To Go To The Bathroom

Under normal circumstances, this will be perfectly fine. Unless of course, the said sentence is muttered while on the expressway, in winter clothing, queuing for the past 45 minutes for a theme park ride or in the middle of a movie. And it ALWAYS happens.

2. “DADDY! DADDY! DADDY! DADDY! DADDY! DADDY! DADDY! DADDY!”

It's amazing how a word that once sounded so wonderful can become the most annoying thing ever when it’s yelled eight times in a row. Either that or "Daddy, see!" while I am doing something kind of important, uhm... like driving.

1. [Pure Silence]

Okay, so this is perhaps the most terrifying sound a parent can not hear. Ever. Silence. No talking. No screaming. Or anything. It is an absolute red alert that something has gone terribly wrong.

My girl just turned a grand old age of two and "i don't want!" has been her pet phrase ever since she started speaking in sentences.... Esp when trying to feed her dinner when all she wants to do is play!

Hi Ivy,

Oh yah! How can I ever have left out the 'WHY???' and more 'WHY???' questions? Definitely #8 on the list then. Haha.

"I want to eat ice-cream"
"I want.... I want... I want.." It drives me nuts!!

Inside the bed, my son said 'I can't sleep what should I do?' (Actually he still wants to play or watch TV.)
