In the Mood for Dancing

UPDATE: Rhapsody @ Pek Kio CC has moved and re-branded as Stepping Out Studios. Details of the new location at the end of the post.

My baby girl is now attending a dance class.

For some reason that I can never comprehend, it seems that most, if not all, mummies make it their life mission to send their daughters to a ballet class of sorts. Well, Ale is still considered a tad young to begin any formal ballet lessons - most schools accept girls aged 4 years and above - so this current dance class will do nicely for now.

Which is a good thing, as Ale loves going to dance class every week.

And the dance class in question? The Melody Bear Melody Movement dance class.

Offered exclusively in Singapore by Rhapsody @ Pek Kio CC, the Melody Bear Melody Movement is a unique dance curriculum which addresses the needs of children aged between 2 and 4. It is tailored to discovering and fulfilling the potential of each child, nurturing their creative development,  while introducing children to concepts of ballet, tap, music and movement.

At the centre of each dance lesson is Melody Bear, the lovable teddy of which her activities, stories, ideas and dreams are be told through dance and movement.

Each week, a sticker detailing the kind of skill learnt - twirling, making shapes, bouncing - is awarded at the end of the lesson. Sort of like a graded curriculum for the kids, but everything is made fun for them at the same time.

And yes, Ale sure made her lessons look fun!

Only thing is, where does Ale get her desire and ability to dance? After all, I dance like a monkey stuck in quicksand.

But genetics aside, I think that has partly to do with her teacher's enthusiastic and passionate approach to the classes, as well as the supportive and fun environment she fosters during the 30-minute session.

Personally, I like how each class is put together combining movement to music, story telling, counting, rhythm and subtle pre-ballet moves. Coupled with confidence-boosting activities, I think it stands out from other dance schools because Rhapsody's Melody Bear Melody Movement dance classes are subtly underpinned by a thoughtfully constructed curriculum that takes into account of how children develop.

At the end of the day though, what matters is still how much Ale loves her dance lessons. And for me, I love watching her dance, simply because of the joy it brings her.

May I know how is the pricing like?

Hi buninanoven,

Sorry, but you will have to check with Rhapsody on the prices. In any case, they offer 1 free trial lesson to everyone so you can bring your child down to try out first. Hope it helps! :)
