Freshest Groceries Right to my Doorstep + GIVEAWAY!

Advertorial

Groceries are an an absolute necessity for every household but with kids in tow, shopping along the aisles of supermarkets is not exactly the template of a weekend outing for most parents. So unless standing in line to pay for groceries and lugging them home WITH cranky kids is your idea of fun, then shopping for your groceries online the comfort of your couch makes a whole lot of sense.

Personally though, I have only tried online grocery shopping a few times and those were for household items like toilet paper, detergent and diapers. Why? Simply because I still prefer to shop for fresh produce at the supermarkets as the vegetables and meat are definitely bound to be fresher than those sold online.

Erm, right?

With PurelyFresh, not anymore.

PurelyFresh is not your usual supermarket chain or a brand new start-up. They first started selling fresh vegetables locally at a wet market stall in 1998.  Almost two decades later, they have expanded and currently own four wet markets in the heartlands of Woodlands, Sengkang and Punggol!

Now, they have ventured into the online grocery shopping business to deliver the freshest groceries straight from the wet market directly to customers - all without the hassle of travelling. Not only are the groceries obtained on the day of delivery, every single item will have to meet its stringent freshness criteria before being handpicked and packed.  Once packed, the groceries are kept under low temperatures during delivery, and the temperatures are constantly monitored to ensure that freshness is retained.

In fact, they are so confident that customers will receive their groceries in a PurelyFresh state that you will get a 100% full refund if you are unsatisfied with the fresh produce!

In today's age of technology, all the freshest produce will count for nothing if the online store is not user-friendly or if the choices are limited. Thankfully, PurelyFresh stocks a wide variety of choices, even exotic fruits like Yellow Dragonfruits and Custard Apples.

Fresh seafood like fish (whole and sliced), prawns, stingray, cuttlefish, squid and sea cucumber make shopping for the freshest seafood a breeze. And yes, the whole fish will come free of all innards and other spare parts by the way.

One particular personalised service I like is PurelyFresh also provides customized orders for its fish, pork, chicken and other meats. This means I am able to request for the fish to be sliced or meat to be minced - just like at the fishmonger or butcher store at the wet market!

Oh, and another speciality that PurelyFresh offers is its fresh Yong Tau Foo selection, perfect for that impromptu steamboat meal with the family.

PurelyFresh offers delivery 7 days a week (FREE delivery for orders $60 and above for a limited time only!), from Mondays to Sundays (including Public Holidays) and from 10am to 12 midnight, with 7 convenient 2-hour time-slots to pick from. So once I had all my items in my shopping cart, all I had to do was to pick my delivery date and time and I was set to receive my happy loot.

The plastic bags of groceries came delivered within a styrofoam box (which the delivery guys took back) so as to ensure everything was fresh right to doorstep. I also liked how the individual items of fish, meat and vegetables were packed separately.

I must say I was also left impressed by how fresh the items really were. The vegetables were green, without a strand of shrivelled stalk while the carrots, mushrooms, blueberries, onions and potatoes were in excellent condition. As for the meats and fish... well, I will just let the photos do the talking.

You may not be able to tell from the photo but the kampung whole chicken was really huge! So huge in fact, that the wifey decided that in order to save some fridge space, she would have to cook one of the monkies fave dish - Chicken Stew, using ingredients from PurelyFresh!

Ingredients
5 carrots
5 potatoes
1 big onion
1 whole chicken
1 packet of brown mushroom
1 can of Cream of Mushroom
5-6 bay leaves
Black ground pepper
Black pepper seed
White pepper seed

Marinade
2 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 tablespoon dark soya sauce
2 tablespoon light soya sauce

1. Add marinade to chicken and leave aside for 30 minutes.
2. Add black and white pepper seed to oil.  Amount adjusted to individual’s preference.  Fry till fragrant.
3. Add in quartered onions. Fry till fragrant.
4. Add in potatoes and carrots. Fry for about few minutes.

5. Add in water.
6. Add in chicken.
7. Close the cover and simmer for an hour.
8. Pour can of cream of mushroom soup in a separate bowl.  Scoop a little soup from pot and mix with the cream soup.  Stir till cream soup is mixed and pour back into pot.
9. Continue to simmer for about 15 minutes.

And there you have it, yummy Chicken Stew!

The stew goes especially well with rice, and the boys always ask for second helpings when the wifey cooks this dish! Okay, me too actually.

Thank you for introducing this to me! As a working couple, sometimes we just do not have the time for grocery shopping although we both enjoy cooking and are trying to eat healthily. This would be such a useful concept and service for us ::)
