Back at Chengzhu Mandarin Centre

Ash attended a five-day Mandarin Holiday programme at Chengzhu Mandarin Centre during the June School Holidays and he thoroughly enjoyed it back then. You can read more about it HERE.

The teachers must have like him so much that Chengzhu invited him back once again - for a full term of lessons! But this time around, Ayd was invited  too. And although both of them would be attending different classes, I guess this arrangement did make both of them feel a little more at ease.

But I needn't have worried.

Both perked up substantially when they encountered the mini indoor playground within the centre's compound.

Ash didn't get a chance to utilize the Chinese Library's, or The StoryHouse's (故事屋), resources the last time when we were there as he didn't have a library card. I love how the entire library is decked out in bright colours and filled with pint-size furniture in every cosy corner. So it is great that both monkies have been issued a library card this time around!

Ash has been enrolled in the Language Skills class, which is catered to primary school kids. The programme essentially covers 5 areas; Storytelling, Oral, Picture Comprehension, Reading and Writing. All of which I am sure he definitely could need some help with!

Likewise, Ayd attends the Language Learners class which is tailored to preschoolers. The Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing aspects are covered as well, through engaging activities like drama, storytelling, music and movement, art and craft, and writing practice.

I could only sneak a peek into Ayd's class, and I could see that he was participating rather actively. But the students weren't the only ones who are active - the thing that struck me about the teachers at Chengzhu is how dedicated they are.

A few minutes before each class is dismissed, the respective teachers come out to give the waiting parents a debrief on what transpired during class including the list of Chinese words that were taught in class.

And when Ash & Ayd were done with their first lesson, they came out with huge grins on their faces. Something tells me they will be looking forward to head on back the following week.

I, too will have a chance to sit in Ash's class during one of the weeks to observe what exactly goes on behind those classroom doors. So stay tuned for my updates!
