This year, Storytelling Comes Alive! takes on a broader form, bringing you a kaleidoscope of presentation styles. Besides engaging kids with the popular Playmobil through three new interesting stories and other Playmobil activities, expect to be awed by the different types of performances ranging from dance musical to puppetry to cultural face changing performances installed for them. Fans of Playmobil can also play with the life-sized western themed Playmobil playsets that have yet to be launched in Asia!

Finding Dr H at Images of Singapore
Children can play little detectives as they help to find Dr H who has disappeared into the past. Along the way, they will get to sneak-a peek into Singapore’s past through time portals and keep proof of their time-travelling journey with augmented reality-enabled photos of themselves during the defining moments of Singapore’s history!

GB KIDS' BLAST
This June holidays, children get to go on an adventure around the Gardens in search of answers that unravel a puzzle! Participants can pick up a clue sheet that will lead them to different parts of Bay South Garden to collect vital information that solves a mystery! The first 100 participants to break the code each day will receive a reward for their efforts.

BLOW WIND BLOW
Blow Wind Blow is a self-guided interactive trail for visitors of all ages. Visitors will learn more  about plants that are pollinated by wind and how their flowers have adapted themselves to increase their chances of reproduction.

“FLIGHT OF FANCY” FLORAL DISPLAY
Go on a "Flight of Fancy" with this brand-new thematic floral display in the cooled conservatories, where hot-air balloons hover over a meadow in the Flower Dome while Moth Orchids spread their "wings" in the Cloud Forest. Discover how seeds disperse in the wind and how plants pollinate with the help of winged creatures like bats, through fun facts and displays. Admission charge to the conservatories applies.

Let your child become an ‘Explorer of the 5 Continents’, and nurture their adventurous spirit! Every child will be handed a customised Jurong Bird Park kid’s explorer kit which contains a ‘passport’. With it, children can navigate around the park to collect stamps in their very own Jurong Bird Park explorer passport. Be sure to check in at the exhibits showcasing birds from Australia, South America, Antarctica, Asia and Africa to collect all 5 stamps!


Dr Squawk’s Expedition (June Weekends only; 2.30pm & 4.30pm; Breeding & Research Centre)
Meet Dr Squawk, the popular host of Bird Park Flies to Schools, who teaches children all about birds in an engaging and fun manner. Children between the ages of 5 to 12 years old can sign up for Dr. Squawk’s Expedition in the Bird Park, as she travels to different continents in search of her flightless feathery friends. Pre-registration is required online, or at the venue at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the programme.

Seize the opportunity to get up close to Jurong Bird Park’s most eggxotic birds at a meet-and-greet session featuring unique-looking birds like Harriet the bar pouched wreathed hornbill and learn interesting facts about them!

Zoolympix is back with a resounding bang in 2013! This time, each participant is transformed into a “Rescue Ranger” and gets to learn first-hand how habitat destruction and poaching are driving many animals to extinction. Leaping into its ninth year, Zoolympix will feature six exhibits in the zoo that will double up as interactive game stations. This series of challenging “rescue missions” will test young rangers’ memory, accuracy and agility. Frozen Tundra Chill-out (All weekends in June; various timings)
Singapore-born polar bear, Inuka is making a comeback this June and he’s got some new friends with him! Inuka’s new home at Singapore Zoo, called Frozen Tundra, will also showcase wolverines and raccoon dogs. As part of the celebrations for Singapore Zoo’s 40th anniversary, Inuka’s housecooling party will be an extended one for the entire month of June. Exciting activities such as guided walkthroughs, token feeding sessions, glitter art and ice sculpture demonstrations await.

Frozen Tundra token feeding session and guided walkthrough
Learn fascinating facts about this themed exhibit while taking in the icy cool ambience of Frozen Tundra. Find out all you need to know about Inuka, the only polar bear in the world to have been born in the tropics, and see if you can spot the elusive raccoon dogs and gorgeous wolverines as you walk through the complex.

You might only be able to rub noses with Inuka, but this polar bear mascot will allow you to cuddle up for a cozy photograph, as a memento of your visit to Frozen Tundra.

The Rock Carnival

The Carnival is a 2-day event (1-day passes sold separately) with climbing as the highlight and side events like face painting, balloon sculpting, flea market and more. On top of a specially constructed bouldering wall with routes of varying difficulties, the highwall will be open for parent-child climbs and a mini competition for special guests. Heritage on a Hill

This approximately 1.5-2 hours FREE programme will highlight the changing faces of Fort Canning through the centuries. Once the seat of Malay royalty in the 14th century, it was home to colonial governors and turned into a fort in the 19th century. In modern times, it was used as a military base during the Second World War. Today, a display of ancient relics dating back to the 14th century as well as the Fort Gate, remnant of the fortress built in the 1860s, are reminders of Singapore's rich past.

 The MacRitchie Forest Trail at Venus Drive meanders along the banks of a crystal-clear forest stream that is full of freshwater life. Here live dragons and damsels, freshwater crabs and prawns, the Puff-faced Watersnake, Pygmy Halfbeak and Saddle Barb.

The trail here is a dirt path which is relatively level and suitable for children, the elderly and the physically-challenged. Be prepared for some mud. This walk is open to the public but registration is required as spaces are limited. Island Adventures is back with an exciting line-up of child-centric programming which includes fun interactive displays and special activities that will delight young visitors and their families! A showcase that celebrates Singapore’s historical narratives, Children’s Season – Island Adventures 2013 explores our multi-racial and multi-cultural society through the themes of Food, Film & Wayang, Fashion, and Photography.  Children can be an old-time hawker and invent a unique ‘Singapore dish’, watch wayang peep shows, be a tailor of different cultural costumes, and learn how photo studios of a bygone era produced coloured prints in the 1950s and 60s.

Each child gets a complimentary activity book, and parents can purchase an optional Craft Kit* for additional hands-on activities.  There will also be roving acts and story-telling sessions at selected timings throughout the season, with outdoor film screenings of Walt Disney classics The Aristocats and Pinocchio, in June. *Optional Craft Kits are available at $5 which includes programmes, Island Adventures – Roving Acts and Island Tales.

“Megabugs Return!” will give visitors the experience of having been shrunk into a size smaller than a bee.  With the animatronics and static exhibits built in mega proportions, kids and adults will get to navigate through a maze of towering grass blades, rocks and flowers and bump into various knick-knacks found in the backyards. Along the way, they will come face-to-face with a 3m-long praying mantis, walk under the wings of a butterfly and get fascinated by super-sized beetles, scorpions and other creepy crawlies. On the walls is Singapore captured in quirky black and white photography accompanied by kooky illustrations and stories to inspire the imagination. Children are invited to look at this world and build on what they see through art.
