Smoulder's Snowskin Chocolate Truffle Mooncakes

Product Review

We have sank our teeth into its molten lava cakes, chomped on its Chinese New Year creations, and indulged in its mousse cups and cakes. And now, the softcore bakers from Smoulder are back to tantalise our taste-buds once again with its Snowskin Chocolate Truffle Mooncakes.

I heard these snowskin mooncakes were really popular during the Mid-Autumn Festival last year, which makes perfect sense for Smoulder to bring them back this year. And just like last year, the same gang of four returns - Signature Dark Chocolate, Green Tea, Raspberry and Rum Raisin, but with a new companion in the form of Banana Chocolate this time around. All of the bite-sized snowskin mooncakes come with a lotus paste base and a chocolate core made with Belgium chocolate.

The Green Tea ones were comparable to its peers in the market, while the Rum Raisin would delight those who adore sweet treats with that extra oomph. Banana and chocolate always go well together, so it was no surprise that the Banana Chocolate snowskin mooncake fared well with the monkies.

But the one that trumped all other flavours in the eyes of the monkies was the Raspberry one. They loved its fruity, jam-like lotus paste, with its tangy taste deftly balancing the sweetness of the chocolate centre. For the wifey though, she zoomed in on the Signature Dark Chocolate one almost instantaneously, which tasted superbly rich.

But no matter which snowskin mooncakes they preferred, nothing could had prepared me for the shocking sight that greeted me when all I did was excuse myself to take a shower.

Oh-em-gee.

The wifey and the monkies must have set a new record for 'the most number of snowskin mooncakes consumed while Daddy was in the shower'.

But who could blame them? Even I found the snowskin layer of the mooncakes to be soft and not too thick. Its lotus paste isn't annoyingly sweet too, complementing the creamy rich Belgian chocolate centre. So yes, Smoulder may be best known for their bite-sized molten lava cakes, but they make pretty kick-ass snowskin mooncakes too!
