Children's Day Activities for Kids 2014

Kids who are 12 years old and below have got it good this coming weekend. Not only is it Children's Day this Friday, Hari Raya Haji's in-lieu holiday falls on the following Monday making it a super combo long weekend for the little ones! And if you are fretting over where to bring them, I have done the homework for you!

Rhino Month @ Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo will launch its inaugural Rhino Month from 20 September to 19 October 2014 to raise awareness about the plight of rhinoceroses in the wild. Join in tonnes of rhino fun and learn the horn-est truth about rhinos and the threats that they face in the wild!

For the first time, Science Centre Singapore (SCS) will be hosting the inaugural edition of Lantern Carnival by the Lake, where dozens of lanterns will illuminate the Science Centre’s premises. This year’s event will play on children’s interest in extraterrestrial beings, with 22 human-sized alien and UFO-inspired lanterns lining SCS’ iconic lakeside. In addition, visitors can look forward to other highlights, such as lantern-making workshops, liquid nitrogen demonstrations and star-gazing sessions.

The annual festival is Esplanade’s festival of arts and culture for children aged two to 12 and over four days, Esplanade will be transformed into a wonderland for children, with ticketed and non-ticketed activities that will surprise, amaze and bring fun to young ones.

From a production that offers a behind the scenes glimpse into how an animated film is created (Something Very Far Away), to a huge outdoor maze made of colourful ribbons which will be created by children themselves (aMaze me!), the festival offers a line-up of ticketed and non-ticketed interactive activities that encourage imagination and play.

Magic shows with Tricky Patrick & Uncle Jimbo

Laugh along with Tricky Patrick as he selects volunteers from the crowd to join him in performing tricks. Witness how he turns shredded paper into a hat, Superman’s brief or a funny boxer and make a bottle vanish into thin air! This will be followed with a special performance – ranging from storytelling sessions to dance and musical numbers – by the students of LEAP SchoolHouse, Genius R Us, Perfect Pitch and UBO Bilingual School. From 4 October - March 2015, a section of Orchard Road will be a temporary pedestrian street between Scotts Paterson Junction and Bideford Junction, every first Saturday night of each month, from 6pm -11pm. And for its first edition on 4 Oct 2014, Tennis Pops Up @ Orchard Road (7.30pm to 9.30pm; between ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City, and Paragon to Tangs) will transform part of the iconic retail stretch into a tennis extravaganza and offer a wide variety of tennis related events and activities with the aim of introducing and promoting tennis as a sport for all – the activities are suitable for audiences of all ages and tennis proficiencies.
