Media Invite

Singapore Night Festival returns for its 12th edition from 23 to 31 August 2019, transforming the Bras Basah.Bugis district into an ethereal wonderland as the façade of iconic landmarks spring to life in brilliance, familiar spaces surprise with artistic expressions, and animated storytellers enchant everyone from the old to the very young.

But even though the actual festival begins on 23 August 2019, THREE installations will be opened to the public on 8 August 2019, at the National Museum of Singapore... AND THEY ARE FREE TO VISIT FOR EVERYONE!

WHISPERS
by Light Society
Venue: Gallery Theatre, National Museum of Singapore
Dates and Time:
8 - 22 Aug, 1 - 8 Sep 2019: 10am - 7pm
23 - 24 Aug, 29 - 31 Aug 2019: 10am - 12mn
25 - 28 Aug 2019: 10am - 10pm

If you only have time to visit ONE installation, make it THIS ONE.

At first glance, the set-up seems pretty simplistic - which consists of huge fans and giant plastic sheets. And I have to admit the beginning of the 12-minute show is a little slow. But have a little patience and I guarantee that it will be a spell-binding experience!

Executed to dramatic effect on a large scale, the immersive wind therapy session evolves from a mersmerizing hypnotic build to an overwhelming display of strength, combining forces both subtle and powerful to evoke an experience of elemental sensation.

For best effects, do position yourself in the centre of the installation to bear the full brunt of the wind!

Kids will love the experience, I reckon. But do note that the installations starts off in total darkness so if you have young kids, it might be good to prep them before heading in. Other than that, I have to say this is really one mersmerizing installation.

Who knew plastic sheets and giant fans can conjure up something like this???

Oh, and in case you are wondering, visitors are NOT allowed to step into the installation - only remain infront of it. The person in the above photo is the artist behind Whispers and he was obliging the media for a quick photo.

COLLAPSE!
by Luc Jacquet
Venue: Gallery 10, National Museum of Singapore
Dates and Time:
8 - 22 Aug, 1 - 8 Sep 2019: 10am - 7pm
23 - 24 Aug, 29 - 31 Aug 2019: 10am - 12mn
25 - 28 Aug 2019: 10am - 10pm

Made by Luc Jacquet, who won an Oscar for March of the Penguins, Collapse! is an immersive audio experience of the haunting effects of global warming and its impact on the world.

No photos to show for, because visitors are ushered into an audio box which is pitch black. Inside, they will be able to hear the sound of collapsing ice glaciers, melting ice beds and the breaking of icebergs in the South Pole. These are REAL sound recordings which Luc had caprtured in his excursions to Antarctica. Click on the video above to hear a snippet of the audio experience.

With the super long National Day and Hari Raya Haji weekend coming up, why not head down to the National Museum of Singapore for these 3 installations? It's FREE, and indoors! 😁
