The Singapore Garden Festival is finally coming home to the Gardens by the Bay!

The bi-annual event will be held from 16 to 24 August 2014, and will feature the grandest gardens and finest of floral displays. Over a nine-day period, Singapore Garden Festival 2014 will treat visitors to a visual fiesta of exquisite garden and floral displays, created by more than 20 internationally acclaimed garden and floral designers.

We visited the 2012 edition 2 years back and while all of us enjoyed it, it was held at the Suntec Convention Centre which made the entire display a tad artificial as it was indoors. This year's edition however, will be held at the The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay, which makes the premise of a Garden Festival more realistic and closer to nature.

There will be plenty of various landscape, fantasy and miniature gardens on display and I will be sure to provide more updates as the festival draws closer. For now though, in conjunction with the official announcement of the return of the Festival, a week-long initiative called 'Share a Plant' has been launched.

Starting from today, a total of 5,000 potted plants will be given out FREE to the public over the next five days across five gardens and parks. Members of the public will be able to pick up a potted plant and share it with someone special.

'Share A Plant' aims to encourage the appreciation of plants and gardening, which is the key objective of Singapore Garden Festival. Not to mention that it too helps to spread the message that everyone - young, old, amateur or aspirational - can garden.

If you do intend to pick up your very own potted plant, be sure to take real good care of it and nurture it well as come the actual Festival, you can bring it back to the Fectival to enjoy a 20% discount on your entry ticket!

But that is not all. There will be a mini-competition - Share A Plant Container Garden Competition - where not only people can bring back their plants to the Festival, they can decorate or arrange it creatively in a 0.5m by 0.5m container, for example, in a dish or basket. A panel of judges will decide the winners, and awards will be given out to the winning displays!
