LEGOLAND Malaysia Review (Part 1)

(Daddy reviews)

Only a few more days to the official opening of LEGOLAND Malaysia and the excitement is building up! Well, for the 2 boys at least. We had previously passed up the chance to the Media Open House day 1.5 weeks back as we were still in Gold Coast.

So when the chance came by again for us to pay LEGOLAND Malaysia a visit ahead of the massive crowds, I naturally jumped at it! And something told me the boys would do the same too.

LEGOLAND Malaysia is divided into 7 zones, and the boys chose LEGO Kingdom as their starting point. They were bent on taking a rollercoaster first and settled on the Dragon's Apprentice, which is essentially a rollercoaster for younger kids. Much like the Dragon one at Universal Studios Singapore.

Dragon's Apprentice ride requirements:
Minimum size: 120 cm (110-119 cm if accompanied by an adult)
Minimum age: 6 years (4 years if accompanied by an adult)

What do you know - that didn't thrill them one single bit! So they set their sights on something bigger.

That's right, it was The Dragon rollercoaster. And my oh my, it was a different act altogether.

I didn't think the boys really understood how the twists and turns of the rollercoaster would make their stomachs churn. But I guess that didn't really matter in the end, because we were on it THREE times.

The Dragon ride requirements:
Minimum size: 120 cm (110 - 119 cm if accompanied by an adult)
Minimum age: 8 years (6 years if accompanied by an adult)

And I survived to tell the tale and I've got the photos to prove it.

After all the adrenaline, the boys decided to take things a little easier. And onto a saddle of a LEGO horse they hopped at the Royal Joust.

Royal Joust ride requirements:
Minimum size: 92 cm; Maximum size: 150 cm
Minimum age: 4 years

The Imagination zone was next, and the boys clamoured up the Kids Power Tower nary a prompt.

Kids Power Tower ride requirements:
Minimum size: 120 cm (100-119 cm if accompanied by an adult)
Minimum age: 8 years (4 years if accompanied by an adult)

They had previously seen photos of me doing a stress test on this particular ride, where I had to pull myself up by hauling on the rope, and drop back down again. And they had been raring to go on it ever since!

Despite having only one exciting ride, I felt that the Imagination zone was one of the family-friendliest zones in LEGOLAND Malaysia. And this is especially so if you have children who are aged four and below.

Kids will go LEGO-crazy at the Build & Test centre where they will try their hand at creating something out of LEGO bricks to see if their creations really work.

For this particular station, the boys had to create a building on the LEGO baseplate. Then they could make the baseplate move side to side to simulate an earthquake to see if their buildings would hold out. Interesting stuff!

Or if the energy-sapping heat should get to you, why not seek refuge in the air-conditioned LEGO Studios?

We did, and were rewarded with a fascinating 4D adventure short movie!

But the biggest draw for the younger kids would be this.

An entire playground for kids to explore and play. And the best part? The entire area is sheltered!

Or should the young ones feel a need to take a short ride to rest those tired legs, there's the DUPLO Express choo-choo train. This would be the fave ride of Ale, I reckon.

DUPLO Express ride requirements:
Minimum age: 6 years (none if accompanied by an adult)
Minimum size: 100 cm (80-99 cm if accompanied by an adult)

The boys were obviously not interested in that, so we were off to the next zone - the Land of Adventure. They started off with a familiar-looking ride called the Beetle Bounce, which is usually a common ride in most theme parks.

Beetle Bounce ride requirements:
Minimum size: 105 cm (90-104 cm if accompanied by an adult)

The boys wanted MORE action, so the Lost Kingdom Adventure beckoned.

Lost Kingdom ride requirements:
Minimum size: 120 cm (110-119 cm if accompanied by an adult)

It is a laser-blasting treasure hunt, in the same vein as the Buzz Lightyear ride in Hong Kong Disneyland. I didn't think much of it though, but the boys still thoroughly enjoyed it.

There is one other thrill ride at Land of Adventure, which is Dino Island. It's a water flume ride and we were prepared to get very wet! Unfortunately, the ride was closed while we were there.

Dino Island ride requirements:
Minimum size: 130 cm (120-129 cm if accompanied by an adult)
Minimum age: 8 years (4 years if accompanied by an adult)

The zone of LEGO City - one of Ayd's fave LEGO playsets - was next on our radar. And it was there that the monkies got their very own driving licences. Plus we saved the best for last - we went on another rollercoaster which simply blew our minds. Most thrilling ride. EVER.

Hi Ivy,

Yes, it is adequate for a day trip since it is open from 10am to 8pm for the remainder part of 2012. Do you have the annual pass? If yes, then can split the rides to various days. Not so tiring.
