Kidz Amaze @ SAFRA Toa Payoh

(Daddy reviews)

With the spate of rainy afternoons we have been having lately, my 2 boys have become rather adept at being the weathermen. "Aiyah, today sure rain... so how, where can we go to play?" - and so the laments go on and on and on.

So when I heard that there was a new Indoor Playground in town - figuratively, not literally - at the newly mushroomed SAFRA Toa Payoh, I knew it would be my lifesaver.

The 12,700 square feet Kidz Amaze is the second outlet after the one at SAFRA Jurong. And it is a dream come true for all kids who love running and jumping around, especially with the 3 inter-connected themed zones - The Cave, Tree Tops and The City.

And the one zone which the boys zoomed in almost immediately was The Cave, where it was home to the ball pit and of course, foam ball shooters!

The foam ball shooters set-up is pretty much similar to some other indoor playgrounds, but there is an additional machine which sucks up all the foam balls into a huge basket on the second level. And just like the tipping water bucket at those water play parks, this basket tips over intermittently and rains balls down onto the delirious kids below.

Okay, so I did it too.

Admittedly, it was tough having to pull these 2 monkies (and myself) away from the balls section so that we could explore the rest of the Indoor Playground.

But the allure of a wave slide proved to be too irresistible to resist.

It wasn't as high as the one at Amazonia or Adventure Zone in Penang, but I guess it was fun for the boys all the same. Two other curve slides make up the family of slides at The City zone, and they were rather fast!

I know because I tried. And I have to say it was rather fun!

As for the Tree Tops zone, it is made up of the usual tunnels and bridges. But with the inclusion of obstacles and tiny holes to squeeze, I didn't think it was a good idea for me to follow the boys through the area. It would be embarrassing to rescue me if I got stuck.

In the end, I think the boys spent most of time moshing around in the Cave zone where all the foam balls are. And I was just content to leave them be as I take a well-deserved rest at the seating area just outside the playground. Oh, and there's free WIFI too in case you are wondering.

There is a baby room, with diaper-changing and hot water facilities, as well as a sofa for nursing. I do love the washroom set-up because for once, the number of child-sized toilet bowls and wash basins far outnumber that of the adult-sized ones!

I hear that there will be a separate Infant & Toddler Play Zone (separate charges apply), which is designed by early childhood experts. But at the time of writing, this has not been opened yet and will be available for use from 17 November 2012 onwards.

But back to the monkies - what did my boys think of the newest Indoor Playground in Singapore?

I think they did enjoy themselves pretty much but I could see they got bored of it after an hour or so. As opposed to the 3-storey vertical Indoor Maze at Kidz Amaze SAFRA Jurong, where they simply went on and on without a break. So for older kids aged 4 and above, I reckon the one at SAFRA Jurong would make a greater hit with them. With the opening of the Infant & Toddler Play Zone, the Kidz Amaze @ SAFRA Toa Payoh will be more suited for those aged 3 and below.

And just to be fair, I think I would need to make another trip down... this time with Ale. :)
