School Holidays Indoor Activities for Kids

(Daddy compiles)

The School Holidays have well and truly begun. And given the fickleness of the weather we have been having of late, I thought a compilation of Indoor Activities for Kids will be rather appropriate.

1. Throng the shopping centres (& queues) to catch the Christmas Shows at the Malls

It's Christmas season, and once again the malls will be invaded cartoon characters adored by all kids. From Transformers, Hello Kitty, Dora to Barney to Angry Birds to even Playmobil, click here: http://www.cheekiemonkie.net/2012/11/updated-christmas-shows-at-malls-2012.html for a detailed listing for all the shows happening this festive season!

2. Say Hello Kitty, and hug Barney & friends at the Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park

Only a 20-minute drive from the Tuas Checkpoint and 10 minutes away from LEGOLAND Malaysia, the Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park houses popular global children’s characters from Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, The Little Big Club - think Barney, Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder - and LAT.

And best of all, everything is INDOORS!

3. Discover the mesmerising ocean world at the world’s largest aquarium, S.E.A. Aquarium at the Marine Life Park, Resorts World Sentosa

Newly opened on 22 Nov 2012, step into a magical marine world seen through our planet’s largest window to the ocean. With more than 800 species of marine animals, the aquarium is home to majestic manta rays, enormous goliath grouper, Napoleon wrasse, and other gentle giants of the sea. Come face-to-face with over 200 sharks and uncover the centuries of myths about these ocean predators.

This tiny gem is packed with stuff from the old days from toys, school memorabilia to even a old drinks stall push cart! Definitely a must-go for parents to reminisce and for children to know more about the Singapore in the past.

6. Let your kids go bonkers in one of the many Indoor Playgrounds in Singapore

Click HERE for a list of my Top 10 Indoor Playgrounds.

7. Get a taste of life during the Japanese Occupation at the Old Ford Factory Museum, or pay your respects to the gallant dead at the Reflections at Bukit Chandu

The Old Ford Factory Museum played a vital role in Singapore's history, as it served as the venue for the formal surrender of Malaya by the British Forces to the Japanese Army on 15 February 1942. This museum tells the many tales of those who lived through the Japanese Occupation years. We were there 2 years back (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2010/05/i-heart-museums-old-ford-factory.html) for a Kids event, and I was particularly amazed by the interesting Japanese Occupation-related exhibits there. Definitely worth a second trip there.
Address: 351 Upper Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 588192
Opening Hours: Mondays to Saturdays, 9.00am to 5.30pm | Sundays, 12.00pm to 5.30pm

Yet another gem of a museum tucked away in a secluded corner of Pasir Panjang, the Reflections at Bukit Chandu Museum commemorates the gallantry and sacrifice of men of the 1st and 2nd Battalion Malay Regiment who defended the Western sector of Singapore in February 1942.
Address: 31-K Pepys Road, Singapore 118458
Opening Hours: Tuesdays - Sundays, 9.00 am - 5.30 pm

8. You don't have to fly to enjoy Changi Airport

We simply love going down to the Changi Airport simply because we love the open spaces there, especially in Terminal 3. From the Aviation Gallery, Interactive Art Booths, Kids Playground to Singapore's tallest indoor slide (12m high! Gulp!), we never get bored during our time at Changi Airport. Oh, and there's still the skytrain for us to take too!

And now with the inclusion of the Angry Birds Space Lounge which features a space-themed indoor playground with fun obstacles, slides and a gigantic ball pit, there is no way my monkies will pass up a chance to head down to the Airport.

If all else fails, there is always the Cinema for the kids to catch a cartoon this holiday season.
