8 Reasons Why Kids will Love LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia

Media Invite
(Daddy builds)

Searching for a hotel where everything - and I mean EVERYTHING! - is all about the children? Then hop across the Causeway for a night's stay at LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia and watch your children's faces light up in the many colours that only LEGO bricks can have. Or at least that was what happened to my monkies when we were invited to spend a night there, one day before the hotel officially opened to the public.

Compared to a conventional hotel, the LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia is constructed based on the premise that the children are the most important persons in the world. And looking at the many kids-friendly features in the hotel, I have to agree:

1. Kids Play While You Check-in

How many times have you asked your child to stop fiddling with the stuff at the hotel's reception while awaiting to be checked in? Because truth be told, I get insanely irritated being stuck in the check-in queue with my monkies getting incredibly restless as the moments tick by.

But at LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia's lobby, kids can jump into piles of LEGO bricks and start building while parents can only just look in envy while waiting in line.

And the entire lobby area is HUGE! There are two LEGO pits; one with Pirate Ship smack in the middle of it and the other being a towering castle, which kids can explore within as well.

Or if they want to put their keen observation skills to good use, then just take a closer look at the display wall behind the Reception desk.

It's an entire wall of LEGO Mini Figs, that's what. And every single one of them is different - all 12,528 of them! Want a better look? Just wait for the bicycle with its giant magnifying glass wheels to peddle past to see details of these miniature plastic figurines.

Being a LEGOLAND Hotel, I believe it will be tough not to see any LEGO references throughout.

Even the flowers are made of LEGO Bricks!

2. Kids Play Some More After Check-in

Even after securing your card key to your room, your kids might not want to head on up yet... not when they are waylaid by another interactive play area further inside the hotel lobby.

If you have toddlers in your entourage, this is the area to be. There are the usual-sized LEGO Bricks stations but more importantly, there are 2 play pits filled with large foam LEGO Bricks - much like the ones found at the Build-A-Raft River at LEGOLAND Water Park.

Oh, and did I mention there is an XBOX Kinect machine here too?

3. Dance in the Disco Elevator

If you manage to tear your kids away from the fun-packed hotel lobby, then the ride in the elevator up to your room is an experience itself.

No doubt the interior of the elevators are adorned with LEGO-themed pictures, which delighted the monkies.

But the real action begins when the doors close - Disco music comes on, inciting the monkies to dance and leap about. My only regret was that we stayed only one floor above the lobby, which was hardly enough to get our groove going!

4. Choose Your Themed Room

Thanks to our blog, my monkies had the luxury of staying in various hotels over the past years and it is a privilege that I am forever thankful for. But I have never seen them get as excited as they did when they stepped into our LEGOLAND Hotel room.

At the LEGOLAND Hotel, every single room is themed. Each floor of the hotel has a different theme: Adventure, Kingdom, and Pirate. We had the Premium Pirate Themed room which is equipped with a separate sleep area for children with bunk beds and a trundle bed to accommodate up to three children, plus a king-sized bed for parents in their own space. The two areas can be separated via a sliding door.

Needless to say, the monkies were absolutely thrilled to have their own bunk bed to conquer.

There are 4 types of rooms at LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia: Standard Themed, Premium Themed, Deluxe Themed and Suite Rooms.

The Standard and Premium Themed rooms are essentially the same; both can accommodate up to 5 guests, with each room having one king size bed and one bunk bed, which includes a trundle bed. The Standard Themed rooms face the front of the Hotel while the Premium Themed rooms have views of the LEGOLAND Theme Park and Water Park. Also, the Premium Themed rooms come decked with LEGO character wallpaper throughout the entire room while the Standard Themed rooms only has wallpaper in the children Bunk Bed area. All rooms come with 5 breakfasts.

Families with even more members can opt for the Deluxe Themed rooms - which comes only in Pirate Themed - and those can accommodate up to 8 occupants. Each room includes one king-sized bed and two bunk beds, each of which includes a trundle bed. The Suite rooms can also sleep 8 persons, but come with 2 bathrooms and an additional Living Room. All rooms come with 8 breakfasts.

Back to our room, I love the little details scattered throughout... like our bathroom.

Yes, the creepy crawly LEGO spider on the wall was definitely a nice touch BUT the thing that won me over was this.

A separate wash basin just for the kids, which is at a lower height!

Want a peek at the other Themed rooms? I had the opportunity to do that as well. First up, the Adventure Themed rooms!

Ayd loved the Adventure Themed rooms the best, while Ash was happy with our Pirate one. Ale, on the other hand, preferred the Kingdom Themed rooms... all because of a certain LEGO Princess on the wallpaper.

5. Pop Open A Box of LEGO DUPLO Bricks

All rooms are stocked with an in-room bucket of LEGO DUPLO bricks to keep the kids occupied as well.

Something which Ale wasted no time in opening. But do note that the bucket of bricks are not meant to be taken home when you check out.

6. Go Treasure-Hunting In Your Own Room

But something that can be taken home is the Treasure that is locked inside this Monkey Safe found in all rooms.

Yes, one of the cool things about staying in LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia is that kids get to embark on a Treasure Hunt in their own room. In order to unlock the safe, they will have to look for clues in the room by answering 4 questions.

Once they have all four numbers, they can attempt to crack the code on the number lock. The boys unlocked the safe after 2 tries! And the safe was filled with LEGO goodies - which you can gladly keep!

7. Dip in the LEGOLAND Hotel Pools

Tired of being cooped up - if there is ever such a thing - in your Themed room? Guests can head to the Swimming Pool on the 5th level.

There is the main pool, and also a wading pool for kids.

8. Tuck In - the LEGOLAND Way

If all these activities work up an appetite, there LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia offers LEGO Themed Dining at the Gourmet Bricks and Bricks Family Restaurant. The former is an a la carte-style restaurant which offers a variety of international cuisines. But the place where your kids will want to dine is at the Bricks Family Restaurant, which serves buffet spreads for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The buffet at the 465-seater Bricks restaurant offers plenty of options to choose from, including salads, pastas, meats and desserts (and a chocolate fondue fountain!) for lunch and dinner or eggs, cereals, pastries, yogurts and the other usual suspects for breakfast.

I appreciated the kids buffet corner, which is set up at a lower level for small hands to serve themselves.

Besides the food, the monkies (and I) had an absolute blast trying to spot all the LEGO models that were scattered throughout the restaurant.

My Final Verdict? For families who love all things LEGO, LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia is a must-stay. The attention to details, especially how kids-centric the hotel is, and the fun factor is undeniable. If you are looking to go all crazy at the LEGOLAND Theme Park and Water Park over 2 days, then a night's stay at the hotel will no doubt complete the LEGOLAND experience. That, and the kids will strive to be on their best behaviour throughout the holiday!

All the happy kids from A Happy Mum, Our Little Smarties and SengkangBabies!

Thanks for the really useful tip that standard rooms have the character wallpaper only in the kids bunk bed area. We want the WHOLE LEGOLAND experience so we'll splurge for the premium themed rooms in the March hols. This is even more exciting than Christmas!

No need to be a kid also can go!!! :p

Hi Michele and Callum,

Glad you found the post to be useful! Have fun! :)

Perhaps you should include the most important fact which is, check in is at 4pm and check out is at 10am. Guests tend to miss that tiny detail stated in the FAQ page. I'm afraid my experience isnt as pleasant as yours. Check in process was incredibly slow as there were so many people and those who are minding the reception counter were not very speedy. One guest came to the counter and were told to wait and sit down, he said, "I've been sitting down for an hour and a half already!" Can't blame him for getting mad, I have to wait just as long too. No amount of legos can console the angry parents at the lobby.

Service were slow. Toilettries are upon request. Not laid neatly in the bathroom like hotels we usually been to. Which is ridiculous considering the rm1500++ that we spent pernight there. They arrive upon request. No toothbrush and toothpaste by the way.

Pools are only open at 10am and closes at 6pm. Again, ridiculous considering the check in is at 4pm and check out at 10am. For those who stay for one night, you only have 2 hours window to go to the pool. Not exactly logical considering one might need to catch his/her breath after such an exhausting checking in process.

Oh, no iron and ironing board in the room. No bathrobes.. heck, not even a laundry bag.

Kids may love it, but parents... Perhaps not so much.

Wow.great.sure e kids Will love it.thks for sharing

Hi Fadila,

Oh dear, sorry to hear of your experience.

We were there again just one weekend ago with our friends as paying guests. But surprisingly, both check in and check out were done in under 10 minutes. And even though, the time for check-in stated is 4pm, we got our room at 2pm. Also, when I was checking out at 10.45am, another guest beside me was checking in and he got his room!

Yes, toiletries are indeed on upon request. But toothpaste and toothbrush are included upon request as well.

For our previous 2 stays there, we did not find a compelling reason to visit the hotel pool since the themepark and waterpark are just beside the hotel. So I can't really comment on the pool.

Again, I usually have no need for an iron, ironing board or even bathrobes when travelling with my family. So I can't comment on that as well. But there is a laundry bag in my room's cupboard drawer though.

Hi,

I've already booked the standard themed room. By the way, does the standard themed room also have a separate sleeping area for the kids, i.e. separated by a door?

*Now that I have read your post, feel like upgrading mine to premium too ;)

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi Choco,

Yes, the standard room also has a separate sleeping area and a door too.

The only main differences between a standard and the premium rooms are the wallpaper in the main room (There is still lego-themed wall paper in the separate kids room) and the room views. Premium rooms face the theme park while standard rooms face the undeveloped piece of land.

Hi

Can 8 pax accomodate a premium room meant for 4? Do they really check number of occupants upon check in ?

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi,

The room is meant for 5.

They don't really check the number of occupants, but the buffet breakfast will only be for 5 persons.

I'm thinking of a two-day combo pass to the theme park and water park, plus one night stay at hotel. But the timing is a little odd, don't you think? 10am to 6pm at each park, check-in is at 4am, check-out at 10am. So no way I can check-in until I'm done with one park, and I'll have to check out before heading for the second park the next day. What do you think?

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi,

I don't think the water park requires a full day. At least from my experience, we were done with the Water Park by 3-4pm.

You can try to check in earlier to see if there are available rooms.

As for checking out, we also checked out before heading to the theme park.

Hi!

I've plans to head to legoland with my family of 5 including myself (all adults). Im really confused with their rooms.

I plan to book the premium themed room where it states max occupancy of 5 pax. But 1 premium room have a big king bed and 1 bunk bed.. the bunk bed is only for kids and not adults at all, which means the 5 pax is only for 2 adults and 3 kids right?

Cause I actually tried booking it at legoland website itself and it only allows me to choose 2 rooms for 5 pax. That means both our premium rooms, nobody will be using the bunk bed.. Cant they just fit 5 ppl in 1 room? unless the bed is only lengthen for kids height.

Are we allow to open the treasure box also? or are they just for kids?

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi Anon,

Thanks for dropping by our blog!

The bunk bed is able to fit a standard adult actually. The premium room provides 5 breakfasts, regardless of whether they are adults or kids. So I would think the hotel will accept a booking for one room with more than 2 adults.

As for the treasure box, guests of the room can attempt to open it and keep its contents. Not only for kids.

Hope it helps!

Hi there,

Is there a car park within the Legoland hotel itself? If so, is it safe to park there?

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi,

Yes, there are 2 parking basements within the hotel. So far, I didn't encounter any unpleasant incidents while parking there.

Hi there, me and my friends (all grow ups) are planning to visit Legoland & the water theme park as well. Is one day enough to enjoy both parks or do we need two days?

Appreciate your suggestion/advice :)

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi toshi,

Thanks for dropping by my blog!

It depends whether you are going on a weekday or weekend. Weekdays will have less people and hence queues will be much shorter. If so, then there will be time to cover both parks in one day.

Hope it helps!

toshi said...

Thx for the feedback. We're going there on a weekend..but not sure if it's worth it to get a two-day pass haha.

Hi. Can I ask if there is any cake shop around the hotel or theme park? We plan to go in June to celebrate kid's birthday, so want to buy a birthday cake there if there is. Otherwise, we may need to buy one from Singapore and bring over. Hope to get your reply soon.

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi Zhang Wei,

There is one bakery at Mall of Medini which is beside the hotel. I'm not sure if it is still in operation though.

Hi. We'll be touring Singapore for a week, and plan to visit legoland for a night and 2 days. My question is, if we reach legoland early, say around 10 am, and leave our luggage with the hotel (dont check in early with the hotel but head straight to the theme parks), is it possible? Basically, the question is if it's possible to keep our luggage with the front desk at around 10 am, and check in at around 6-7 pm after returning from the theme park? Many thanks for your help in advance.

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi ragz_min,

Thanks for dropping by my blog!

Yes, LEGOLAND Hotel has a huge separate luggage room for guests to utilise before check-in and after check-out. There will be staff in the room.

Hope it helps, and enjoy your time at LEGOLAND Malaysia!

Hi, so so glad that I found this blog of yours. We'll be staying at Legoland hotel on July 2016. I read that there is early check in service available. Do you know how much the fee is? If it cost too much I guess we'll use the storage room in receptionist and head up to the Theme Park immediately and check in later.

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi Irawan,

Thanks for dropping by! :)

Unfortunately, I do not know the fee for early check-in. But my advice is to head to the theme park first early in the morning (less hot, and not as crowded), check-in in the afternoon and get some rest and then head back to the theme park before it closes.

Hope it helps!

irawan suryanata said...

Thank you for your suggestion Kelvin. So is it possible to get out the theme park and head back as long as it's in the same day? That would be very convenient.

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi Irawan,

Yes, the day pass is valid for same day re-entry.

ragz_mln said...

First, a big thanks to Kelvin for maintaining this blog. You're really helpful.
Irawan- Yes, early check in is possible. Just refer to the legoland website to book a room, and you have the option to add early check in. Though it's a little expensive imo.

Hello, I am about to book the Legoland Hotel Room via Traveloka.
The problem is the room type stated as "DOUBLE PREMIUM".
My question is, what theme is for this DOUBLE PREMIUM?
Please see the link below :

https://www.traveloka.com/en-my/hotel/malaysia/legoland-malaysia-hotel-625873?spec=28-12-2016.29-12-2016.1.1.HOTEL.625873.helpsuggest.2

Tried to ask Traveloka but they said need to ask the hotel since the information was provided by the hotel.
And the hotel did not pick up my call :(

Would like to got there on 28th Dec.

Kindly advise and thank you ya!

Cheekiemonkies said...

Hi Erlissa,

Sorry for my late reply. If you book the room from a third party vendor, I think you will not be able to choose the theme of the room. However, you will be able to select the theme if you book directly with LEGOLAND Hotel. Hope it helps!

Hi Irawan/Kelvin,

Just to share with you, park tickets are for single entry only. Not sure if it is different if you book it with your hotel.
Hope this helps!
