Conquer the Day with MILO!

Advertorial
(Daddy blogs)

In case you did not know by now, Ayd is THE biggest fan of MILO on this planet as far as I know. He lives and breathes MILO, and is even able to whip up a mean MILO drink all by himself.

So when he found out that I was writing a blog post for MILO once again, he immediately volunteered his services to aid me in my article - without me having to ask. Why don't I see this level of enthusiasm when it comes to his Chinese Spelling in school is beyond me.

Anyway, the wifey was intending to bake some muffins for the boys to bring to school as their recess food. And it was Ayd who hit upon the idea of adding MILO into a batch of muffins!

I think Ayd's love for MILO must have rubbed off Ale somewhat, because it was the first time that I have seen her getting so interested in cooking.

After about 20 minutes of anxious wait, the MILO muffins were done!

I have to say they looked so darn delicious that I wanted to keep them all to myself. Not that Ale would let me, of course.

Predictably, all three of them clamoured to have one MILO muffin for breakfast the next morning. And even more predictably, I was more than happy to do so. All because we parents know that MILO contains the natural goodness of malt, milk and cocoa. In fact, the nutrient content of MILO has been enhanced to meet evolving demands over the years with its current formulation with B vitamins and Magnesium, in combination with PROTOMALT.

But not only does MILO provide long-lasting energy from PROTOMALT, it also releases energy from one's food with B vitamins and Magnesium. Coupled with the fact that it contains calcium which aids in building strong bones and teeth, I can tell why this is one drink that has become an important part of any child's nutritious breakfast.

But I have to admit - it is extremely challenging to drag the boys out of bed in the wee hours of the mornings on school days. They can lie dormant in bed, stand stone-faced in the bathroom with toothbrush in hand, or stare blankly at their breakfast... even as precious time is ticking to have them changed into their school uniform.

So I whip out my secret weapon - the MILO Ready-To-Drink tetra paks! You should see how their eyes light up whenever the green packet makes its grand entrance. Breakfasts get gobbled up in record time, school uniforms being put on in the quickest possible manner, and school shoes worn in seconds. Well, it certainly helps that the MILO packets are the perfect (and convenient) solution for kids to drink while on the way to school too!

I am such a stickler for the kids to eat their breakfast simply because I believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Research has shown that if a child fails to have a proper breakfast while growing up, he/she will be more likely to skip breakfast as he/she grows older. And that is bad as children who skip breakfast tend to have a higher BMI because he/she tends to get hungry before lunch time and are more prone to snacking on foods that are higher in fats and sugar.

On the other hand, children who eat breakfast daily are associated with greater alertness, greater tone, reduced anxiety... and they perform better on tests of creativity and mathematics too!

And that is why there can be no compromise when it comes to breakfast for the monkies.

Luckily, MILO is not only a nutritious drink but a delicious one as well. So for the monkies, it is actually the big chocomaltee taste that makes MILO such a hit among them, and yet so equally nostalgic for the kids of yesterday - yes, that's me.

And that, is why MILO continues to be the first thing that goes into my grocery basket whenever we are at the supermarket.

Hi,

For the muffins, we used the Bisquik flour mix. It's used for making pancakes actually, and can be found at the usual supermarkets.

Recipe as follows:

2 cups Bisquick
1/2 cup of MILO powder
1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 egg

Mix all ingredients well and pour the batter into cupcake moulds.

Set oven to 400 degrees. Bake Bake 13 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
