If you're in Shenzhen with the kids, pay AVATAR: Discover Pandora Exhibition a visit!

I am sure James Cameron's AVATAR needs no introduction. The 2009 movie was first film to gross more than $2 billion and it remains a classic to date. Sequels are reportedly in the works but if you cannot get enough of the movie, there is the interactive AVATAR: Discover Pandora exhibition to immerse yourself in the AVATAR culture.

The exhibition first premiered in Taipei before making its way to Bangkok. Now, it has set up home in Shenzhen and I had the opportunity to be a part of Singapore's representative for its gala premiere opening in January, thanks to Motion Media Interactive (MMI-Entertainment).

Conveniently located at Great China International Exchange Square in Shenzhen, AVATAR: Discover Pandora exhibition can be easily accessed via train by alighting at the Convention & Exhibition Centre train station... which means you can easily do a day trip here if you are in Hong Kong for holiday!

Because the exhibition is more about just some blue figurines. Rather, it encompasses an experience for the entire family based on some of the most astounding and fascinating aspects of the alien moon Pandora spread over a staggering 12,000-square-foot area.

One important aspect of the exhibition is your entrance card. It is the key to an interactive experience within the exhibition and unlocks the fun features that are scattered within the venue.

If you are a fan of the movie, there is no doubt the the artifacts and specimens presented here will thrill you. Even non-fans can expect loads of captivating exhibits such as life-sized recreations of creatures including the Banshee, Direhorse, and Viperwolf.

Stepping into the exhibition feels like immersing myself in a world of science where the lines of fiction and non-fiction are blurred, creating a surreal yet wonderful first-hand look at Pandora.

Of course, there always has to be a highly Instagrammable exhibit these days and I bestow that title upon the Tree of Souls.

But beyond the exhibits, I was pleasantly surprised at how family-friendly the exhibition is. Plenty of sensory elements are abound throughout the exhibition so parents with itchy-fngers kids can rejoice! LOL.

And it is all part of the fun learning experience where kids will be able to not only see, but touch, feel and even smell!

From finding out what kind of plant or creature you are on Pandora to guessing a creature's poop to taking flight like a banshee, there are loads of hands-on activities to keep the kids occupied.

My personal favourite? Avatarizing myself to see how I would look as a Na’Vi. Pretty cool stuff!

Handsome or not?

But I think still not as handsome as this actor who never seems to age.

Exhibits aside, what sets this AVATAR: Discover Pandora apart from other movie-related exhibitions is how interactive and educational it is.

Sure, it is fun for families too but the exhibition actually imparts knowledge on the earth, animals, plants and the environment. Essentially, it is teaching us to love and cherish this planet called Earth that we call home.

If you are planning to visit Shenzhen with the kids - or even taking a day trip from Hong Kong - I strongly recommend paying AVATAR: Discover Pandora a visit!
