10 Must-do Activities at SmartKids Asia to keep the Kids Busy this March School Holidays

Advertorial

What do you know... the first school term is already done and dusted! Although the kids get only a week's worth of break during the March School Holidays, I speak from experience that it can sometimes get a little exasperating trying to plan some activities for the kiddos.

Well, not if you head down to Singapore Expo Hall 6 between 16 and 18 March 2018 for the newest edition of SmartKids Asia!

The region’s largest educational event, SmartKids Asia returns this March school holidays filled with over three days of fun, hands-on and interactive activities. And this year, SmartKids Asia has refreshed its content with a focus on language and learning in the 21st century to help young learners develop competencies in line with the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE)’s Framework for 21st Century Competencies and Student Outcomes.

If that sounds too 'cheem', rest assured that every activity has been made FUN and ENGAGING at the same time - so that the kids can indulge in learning effectively.

Just ask the monkies, who attended a previous edition!

So from a brand new sensory art trail to storyland activities to even an area specifically for kids aged 2 to 12, here are 10 activities to get in on all the action:

1. Learning Pavilion *NEW*

For the first time, The Learning Pavilion, a dedicated area within the exhibit hall will showcase language and enrichment programmes that nurture and support the development of young learners towards a future ready generation.

Taking a leaf out of Korea’s international children’s education and product fair, K-Children, the pavilion at SmartKids Asia adopts a similar concept of the shared classroom format which embraces co-learning amongst the exhibitors and visitors.

Exhibitors within the pavilion include Augustine’s English Classes, Challenge Island, Elloquence English Learning Centre, Fun-da-mentals Learning Centre, Knowledge Point Education Hub, Mini Wonders, Precious Gems, Premium Tutors, Progressive Learning Academy, The Musical Voyage, The Learning Board, vGenius and Yang Guang Chinese Enrichment Centre to name a few.

Visitors to this dedicated educational pavilion can look forward to specially curated educational activities and games that are designed by participating exhibitors to simultaneously teach and entertain. Activities range from puzzle-solving, mini board games, word games, comprehension speed games, math quizzes, mini English challenges, craft activities such as make-your-own-musical instrument, musical word of the day, pop quizzes on cards for all levels and more.

All activities within this pavilion are free-to-play for children between 2 and 12 years old. Participants may get to walk away with small prizes and rewards upon completion of individual prizes conducted by participating exhibitors.

2. Sensory Art Trail *NEW*

Sensory play is crucial to a child’s brain development and should include any activity that
simulates a young learner’s senses: touch, smell, movement, balance, sight and hearing. Hence, the debut of the Sensory Art Trail - a multi-sensory experiential trail where pockets of experimental spaces lie in.

Specially curated by a lecturer from Laselle College of the Arts, Singapore’s premium art school and three Singaporean artists, participants at SmartKids Asia’s  first-ever Sensory Art Trail will encounter a carousel of textures, a lab of taste and smell, a land of instruments, a logic game space while navigating a conceptual tropical forest trail.

Through this trail, SmartKids Asia will facilitate exploration beyond touch and encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore. The first 200 participants to register at http://woobox.com/6xsqhm and visit the Sensory Art Trail will receive a mystery gift.

3. Storyland

Partnering with National Library Board for the second year running, this popular segment will showcase timeless classics in the form of theatrical plays and storytelling from The Frog Prince, Pinocchio, The Sleeping Beauty, and more.

At the Safe Cycle zone located at the back of the hall, a programme to impart basic skills training and road circuit simulation to educate kids on safe cycling will be carried out. Children will be certified as a young safe cyclist at the end of the programme. Entry to Safe Cycle Zone is chargeable.
