OH MY, are we really coming to the end of the year already??? And you know what that means - time to keep the kids occupied during the November and December school holidays! But but but there's no need to fret because I've got you covered.

In fact, there are just so much to do that I have spread the activities into two listings once again - one for activities taking place in the month of November and the other for December. Did you know there are already more than 50 activities for this month alone? Mind-boggling, yes but it sure is going to be a fun-filled holiday period as well!

Organised by the National Arts Council (NAC), Arts In Your Neighbourhood (AYN) returns with close to 70 specially curated activities over three weekends from 8 to 25 November 2018. The arts will be brought to 18 locations island-wide, including residents and working professionals in Woodlands, Admiralty, Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Pasir Panjang, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun.

Interactive arts experiences across music, dance, theatre and visual arts will bring different communities together to enjoy and be inspired by the arts. The diverse line-up of programmes and activities is suitable for visitors of all ages. Close to half of all activities are held in Woodlands, this season’s focus town. The site-specific programmes will draw inspiration from the history and memories of Woodlands, including commissions such as Jumbo Fabrica as well as public art works. Instagram boyfriends (and girlfriends), use #IslandLights to show off your photos.

Wood Block Printing 
The term kalamkari literally means “work done with a pen”. The term is now inseparably attached to painted and block-printed cotton and silk textiles. Unique shapes and designs are a main feature of this art form. In this workshop, children will bring colours and shapes to life through woodblock printing.

This concert will feature a piece by Nathanial Stookey, titled “The Composer is Dead”. Saint Marc Children’s Choir - An evening of Disney Delights & Season’s Greetings

The Saint Marc Children’s Choir (PCSM: Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc) from Lyon, France, is well known for performing and singing in the movie “Les Choristes”. We will be presenting PCSM on November 20 and 21 at the Victoria Concert Hall. The concerts will also feature the talented young oboist – Singapore’s very own Quek Jun Rui.

In addition to classical songs, the choristers will present several Oscar-winning Disney songs, and seasons favourites to the Singaporean audiences. Songs include “When you wish upon a star” from Pinocchio, “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas, “Can you feel the love tonight” from The Lion King and “Let it go” from Frozen. Many of the songs will be sung in French and, while the melodies will be familiar to the audiences, the French lyrics will add a different dimension in the enjoyment of the repertoires. Featuring a dry and a wet playground, our Pop-Up Adventure Playgrounds are public celebrations of child-directed play which are stocked with loose parts (such as wooden pallets, tubes, cardboard boxes, fabric, tape and string and common materials considered as "junk"), the Pop-Ups will gently introduce themes of risk and freedom by welcoming people of all ages and abilities to play together. Highlights of the tour include the Bandstand, sculptures in the Gardens, the Heritage Trees, the Main Gate, the Saraca Stream Walk. Race Against Time - Science behind a Botanic Garden Tour

This session introduces the research facilities at the Singapore Botanic Gardens such as the Library of Botany & Horticulture, Orchid & Micro-propagation laboratory and the Herbarium. Highlights of  this 45-minute tour includes a visit to the Herbarium which stores physical records of reference plant materials, some dating as far back as 1790.  In addition, learn about our hybridization programme for orchids, a process introduced back in 1930’s by the then Director, R.E Holttum.

Registration is required at the Service Desk 15-minutes before the scheduled start time. Slots are limited to 25 people, for ages 9 and above.

The only thing is, Ganga is too powerful for Earth.

How will Ganga help Bhagirath without swallowing his land whole? Follow her adventure as she makes her way down from heaven and meets someone who can help her with her problem! Watch Ganga bring back the rain and restore the greenery on Earth. Russian National Musical Day In Singapore

2018 is the 50th anniversary of the Russia-Singapore diplomatic relations. To celebrate this special anniversary, a leading Russian Orchestra, Moscow Suvorov Military Orchestra, named after Lieutenant-General V. Khalilov, and representing the greatest musical minds of Moscow Suvorov Military Music College, will stage its performance in front of the Singaporean audience.

Moscow Suvorov Military Orchestra is internationally recognized as the most distinguished military band and orchestra of Russia. Besides Russia, the central training band wing of the College participates in military tattoos of Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, England, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It is also a regular participant in the SpasskayaTower military tattoo festival since 2006. The orchestra is well-known for integrating orchestral and opera classics with contemporary music of the 21st century. Come and experience an evening of Russian musical delights!

With one of the longest-running anime series and over 440 million manga volumes in circulation worldwide, ONE PIECE is indisputably one of the most popular Japanese creation ever. In this exhibition, very rarely brought out of Japan, visitors can expect to discover the infinite imagination of creator Eiichiro Oda as they wander through a gallery of his illustrations, get up close and personal with a replica of his work desk, and even experience as if they have jumped into the mind of Eiichiro Oda with a unique Virtual Reality Experience!
