Guardians of the Galaxy Review: Insanely Fun!

Media Invite

Picture this - A movie set in a totally unfamiliar universe, introducing obscure comic book characters with ranging backgrounds, a talking raccoon, a walking tree that fights, emotional moments, LOL scenes, and multiple villains. All of these, infused with a 70's pop soundtrack.

How is this ever going to work?

Oh, but it did. You know Marvel is doing something right when even their B-team of superheros are coming out with mind-blowingly good movies. That's right, Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best films Marvel has ever released.

I won't go into detail about the storyline as you can pretty much search it up online. But what I will say is this: there is never a dull moment in the 2-hour long movie. Everything zips by effortlessly - from the poignant, emotive moments to the comical bits to the astounding action scenes. The band of 5 Guardians, or misfits, truly shines when they get together. The witty dialogue is pitch perfect and the interaction and synergy between each member is flawless.

Simply put, it is exactly what a comic book movie should be.

Perhaps the most telling review came from the wifey. This was the first comic book movie that my non-comic-reading wife managed to stay awake for the entire time! And she absolutely loved it. Ditto for Ash and Ayd, who tried so very hard to keep their pee in so as not to miss even one second of the movie.

And their fave Guardians of the lot? Definitely Rocket and Groot.

Rocket the gun-totting raccoon is as funny and snarky as he is fuzzy while Groot stole the hearts of the monkies just by being so emotionally expressive, even though this tree has a vocabulary that is limited to "I", "Am" and "Groot".

As insanely fun and entertaining Guardians of the Galaxy is, it still packs a punch in the emotional quotient. The quiet moments, especially during the first scene, and scenes between Rocket and Groot, round up the wholly satisfying theatrical experience.

The great thing about Guardians of the Galaxy is that it has something for all ages. Parents who grew up with classics like Star Wars, Ghostbusters and Back To The Future will discover the same kind of energetic gusto and vivd fun that the movie will bring. As for the kids, the premise of a beloved tree that can also fight and a raccoon with an attitude problem along with quirky aliens will surely suffice.

Finally, a big thank you to Cebu Pacific Air for inviting us down for the movie screening!

It was certainly a night of fun as the best dressed bloggers and fans who came in superheroes outfits got to walk away with Cebu Pacific Air tickets to Cebu and 3D2N stay at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino and Cebu Pacific Air tickets to Manila and 3D2N stay at the Manila Pavillion respectively.

The pre-movie event came complete with game booths to keep the monkies busy too!

Still pondering whether to watch Guardians of the Galaxy? In the words of my boys:

It is awesome, super fun and  - can we watch it again?

Hi Smurfy,

PG13 is meant for movies suitable for people aged 13 and above. But the rating is only an advisory and parents can still accompany their kids to watch the movie.

Hope it clears things up! :)

Hi,

There is one scene where the middle finger was shown, as well as the F-bomb was dropped in another.
