After my compilation of the best outdoor playgrounds in the
West of Singapore, it's time to show some love for the North of Singapore.
So WOODLANDS, SEMBAWANG and YISHUN, you are up next!
Not only is the Northern part of Singapore home to a park with the most number of slides in any park in Singapore, it also has a number of play structures in the form of interesting forms and shapes - like a giant grasshopper, huge ants, dinosuars, aeroplanes battleships and even crooked houses!
WOODLANDS
1. Admiralty Park
31 Riverside Rd, Singapore 739087
Now this certainly needs no introduction. With 26 slides – the most number of slides in any park in Singapore - the outdoor playground at Admiralty Park has got to be the largest and best one in the northern part of Singapore!
The playground capitalises on the undulating terrain to site the three main play areas – Junior Play, Adventure Play and the Family Terracing Play – catering to children of all ages and featuring diverse play equipment that encourage group and multi-generation interactions. Yes, even teens and adults are welcome to go on the slides!
In fact, the widest slide and the longest slide in a public park can be found here. At the top of the hill, you can also find a flying fox that whizzes around a circle which will be a hit with the older kids.
The 20-ha nature area also encompasses a diverse mix of secondary forest, mangrove, riverine and open grassland habitats, and is home to more than 100 species of flora and fauna. With several trails within the 20-hectare nature area, families can discover the different species living in the forest, spot hordes of dragonflies and observe monkeys in their natural habitat.
2. Woodlands Waterfront
Admiralty Road West
A coastal park boasting a 1.5km long waterfront promenade, a 11-hectare park, a large multi-generational playground and a 400m ex-naval jetty, Woodlands Waterfront is a park worth visiting no matter how off the beaten track it may be. For one, the two-storeys high netted Sky Bridges and Sky Cabins will no doubt make older kids squeal in delight and excitement.
There is a mini playground as well, with slides and swings to keep younger toddlers duly entertained. Or families can take a relaxing stroll along the refurbished jetty which offers panoramic views of the park and the Straits of Johor.
3. Jelutung Harbour Park
In front of Block 493 Admiralty Link, Singapore 750493
Located at the foot of Block 493 Admiralty Link, this playground re-opened late last year after a major facelift and now sports 5 play areas for kids of all ages. There are a total of 4 playgrounds to choose from, of which the largest one being in the centre of the park.
But the major draw is undoubtedly the FREE water play area which comes with spray poles, water guns and jet sprays!
The set-up may be simpler than other water playgrounds but in the eyes of kids, water play IS water play... especially if there's a (tiny) splash bucket! The water play area is operational daily from 9.30am to 9.30pm, and there is a toilet cum shower located beside the water area.
4. Marsiling Park
Woodlands Centre Road adjacent to Bukit Timah Expressway
Formerly known as Woodlands Town Garden, Marsiling Park has been thoroughly revamped with 3 brand new playgrounds and a mangrove habitat for families to explore.
The most eye-catching playground has to be the butterfly-shaped playground with climbing ropes. This is keeping in theme with the numerous butterfly species that can be found within the park, and the playground is complemented with educational interpretive boards to let visitors learn more about these butterflies.
There is also a ninja warrior-style playground located just opposite the butterfly playground, which might just appeal to older kids as well as a Fun Play area located at a short walk away (nearer to the car park entrance) for younger kids.
Popular elements of the park - such as the viewing tower, Chinese pavilions and stone bridge - have been retained and improved, including the addition of boardwalks which extend to the water at certain parts around the perimeter of the reservoir. The park also features an enhanced mangrove forest with more than 1000 saplings of mangrove species, such as Api Api and White Teruntum. Families will be able to learn more about mangrove ecosystems, thanks to the information panels erected at the area.
5. Fu Shan Garden

This dinosaur-themed playground at Fu Shan Garden feels trapped in time, adding to the serenity of the neighbourhood, until the kids start screaming with delight as they slide down the back of a brontosaurus!
Recently, new dinosaur-themed play structures have been added to the neighbourhood too.
In addition, there is also a pretty large play structure located beside the dinosaurs.
6. Woodlands Glen
Block 574 Woodlands Drive 16 Singapore 751574
This nature-inspired outdoor playground is home to a gigantic grasshopper, ant, grass, and a treehouse playground for kids to run (and climb) amok.
Kids get to climb up the grasshopper body, slide down on its back and navigate through a 'tall grasses' obstacle before climbing up a treehouse and sliding down in spiral slide!
Younger kids can climb through the body of a large ant and still enjoy a lower slide all the same.
7. Kampung Admiralty
Block 676, Woodlands Drive 71, Singapore 730676 (Beside Admiralty MRT)
Kampung Admiralty in Woodlands is the first 'modern kampung' to integrate facilities where the old and young can play and exercise together. So expect to find residential units, medical services, childcare, eldercare, and shops all under one roof... including this climbing net playground!
Located on Level 6 of Kampung Admiralty (Block 676, Woodlands Drive 71), the play structure consists of a huge climbing net, a low-level rock climbing slope as well as a slide.
8. Causeway Point
Take to the roof of Causeway Point, where a water play area awaits the kids! Comprising of a series of water jet sprays, mini water fountains and a splash bucket, it is a great way to escape the heat!
SEMBAWANG
9. Sembawang Battleship Playground
Sembawang Park, At the end of Sembawang Road
Presumably as a nod to Sembawang's naval history, the Battleship comes complete with gun turrets, smoke stacks, propellers and even a rudder. I have to admit; I myself did a double take when I first saw the playground simply because for as long as I can remember, I can't recall the last time when a playground made me go 'WOW!'.
There are loads of rope ladders, rock walls and grid nets for kids to navigate and keep them duly occupied. To top it all off, there are the red climbing net reminiscent of a naval flagstaff and insanely fun pendulum swing beside the Battleship too!
10. Canberra Park
Beside Block 365B Sembawang Cres Singapore 752365
This large playground has three distinct play areas that provide varying levels of challenge for kids of all ages.
It would be impossible to miss the huge brightly-coloured playground structure which even has ramps and walkways designed to accommodate wheelchair users. And don't forget the life-sized dino fossil play structure too, where kids can weave in and out of!
The second play area is home to what has to be the largest number of swing play structures in Singapore. Comprising of seven types of swings, it even has a set of swings where kids can even swing towards each other... including swings with a wider seat and safety bars for kids with disabilities.
The final play area will be a treat for kids who love a game of Ninja Warrior. I think this rope obstacle course is one of the longest that I have ever come across in Singapore - with net bridges, rope handholds, step plank bridges and cargo nets to reach the ultimate rope dome structure at the end.
11. Sun Natura

Located in front of Block 362A Sembwang Crescent, this unique outdoor playground comprises of a seaweed-shaped play structure and an ant. The seaweed play structure is a low playing climbing equipment perfect for 6-12 years old and comes with a slide and net.
The Ant is a big play house structure for 2-6 years old. It is accessible with small ladders and comes equipped with a slide. And there are even 6 baby ants seen scurrying to their mother!
In addition, there are play structures within the area meant for older and younger kids.
12. EastBank @ Canberra
Block 121 Canberra St Singapore 751121 (Level 2 of Carpark)
Ahoy, an old Steamer has anchored at Eastbank @ Canberra! Kids have to navigate a big forrest of seaweed from one end to reach the ship.
The playground is a tad smaller compared to the rest but if your kids love all things boats and ships, then this playground - which comes with a climbing deck - will delight them!
13. Sembawang Shopping Centre
Of all the three playgrounds located in shopping centres in the North, Sembawang Shopping Centre's play area is the largest of the lot as it has both dry and wet play areas!
There is definitely plenty of space in the splash area, with mist machines, water guns, and water buckets.
The dry play area located beside also has many play elements like fireman poles to slide down, mini rock-climbing slopes and more slides! Best of all, it is sheltered from the sun under a canopy. An open-shower area is located nearby with lockers for storing your belongings.
YISHUN
14. Oasis Waterpark @ Nee Soon East
307 Yishun Ring Road, Singapore 760307 (10-min walk from Yishun MRT Station)
Opens 10am to 10pm daily
Located beside Block 307 Yishun Ring Road (about 10 minutes' walk from Yishun MRT station), Oasis Waterpark @ Nee Soon East consists of three main zones of water play. The first is a circular 3.5m-tall water curtain, which sprays mist and water at the same time.
The main centrepiece is the water playground which has your usual spray poles, water guns and jet spray curtains. Younger kids can flock to the smaller play zone which has a mini water slide and other water play features.
The third water play zone comprises of various water play features like a water fountain and wading pools.
In addition, the area has other amenities like benches, shade pavilions, toilets, shower points, nursing rooms, hot & cold water dispensers and drinks & ice-cream vending machines.
15. Seletar Aeospace Park
3 Park Ln, Singapore 798387
Not only does the Oval at Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP) consists of several eateries, it is also home to an aviation-themed outdoor playground. In keeping with the aviation theme of SAP, all the play structures at the playground come in the form of aeroplanes and other aviation landmarks.
The playground is essentially divided into 2 areas: one for toddlers and younger kids while the other is for older kids who love a good climb. The toddler area features a mini play structure where everything are mini-sized, like the climbing rope, ladder, wall and slide. There is also a life-sized Ludo gameboard!
For older kids, they might fancy the other playground which comes with larger play structure and a control tower. Besides the usual slides and climbing components, the main play structure also has monkey bars for kids to expend even more energy.
16. Lower Seletar Reservoir Park
Yishun Ave 1, Lower Seletar Reservoir Park, Singapore 769139
Calm and peaceful with turquoise waters and balmy breezes, Lower Seletar Reservoir Park is a pleasant place for leisure activities, both on land and in water. That includes a Family Bay area which comes with a water play area with small fountains and meandering “rivers”!
The wading pool is perfect for kids to frolic in as the water level isn't that deep.
17. Yishun River Green

Located at Yishun River Green and at the foot of Block 330 Yishun Ring Road, these queer-looking crooked houses form the basis of fun at this playground. The interior of the crooked houses are slightly slanted and quite frankly, play on the structure is entirely left up to the imagination of the kids. Of course, a huge and tall slide only upped the fun factor!
At the centre of the playground lies a spiderweb-like structure where kids will be able to clamour onto via a tunnel and reward themselves with a quick descent down the slide.
18. Origami Playground at 3G Park @ Nee Soon SouthOpposite Block 833, Yishun St 81, Singapore 760833
Located in front of Block 833 Yishun St 81, this teal-coloured massive origami playground at the 3G Park @ Nee Soon South is FREE to play for everyone, and is sure to invlove plenty of climbing and swinging action for the kids!
Designed for kids aged between 6 and 12 years old, the origami structure consists of folded and tilted walls which encompass different play elements. And it is clearly constructed with fun activities for children in mind because the entire playground structure comes with inclined surfaces which makes for imaginative and unique play among kids.
For younger kids and toddlers, there is also a separate playground located beside the Origami Playground with various play structures and elements.

If your kids love water slides, your best bet is to head down to Northpoint City which sure to delight them! Besides sliding down long tunnels and getting drenched under a water-dunking machine, there are also water fountains and sprays for added fun.
There is also a small dry play area for younger kids.
20. Yishun ParkBounded by Yishun Ave 4, Yishun Central, Yishun Ave 11 and Yishun Ring Road
Developed on an old rubber estate, Yishun Park is home to an array of tropical fruit trees and natural vegetation. With facilities such as children playgrounds, fitness corners, an amphitheatre and multi-purpose courts, there’s something for everyone.
The playgrounds provide children with hours of fun while the multi-purpose courts are great venues for family gatherings and activities.
Do pop by the Nature Playgarden too as it offers children a handful of free-play elements set upon a grassy mound and a sandpit.
