The Chinese New Year long weekend is upon us and as usual, there are plenty of fun kid-friendly CNY events in Singapore! From the annual Chinatown light-up, to carnivals and fireworks, to open houses at the museums, take your pick from the many activities happening during this weekend... and the next too.

Oh and in case you didn't know, 28 Jan is a SCHOOL HOLIDAY which means the kids get a 4-day break! Those lucky buggers.

The Chingay parade, the annual largest street performance and float parade in Asia, will make an appearance in Chinatown this year to bring the celebrations to a great height but also marking the end of the Chinese New Year Celebrations. Join us with your family and friends for a vibrant night that include special performances by local and overseas performers and not forgetting the nine (9) beautifully decorated and lighted float.

Get caught up in the tale of the heavenly race and feast your eyes on Dahlia Dreams – The Heavenly Race, the first-ever collaboration with Beijing Florascape Co., Ltd. in Southeast Asia. Gracing the Flower Field with their famed Mosaiculture, the horticultural art of creating giant topiary-like sculptures with the use of bedding plants to carpet metal frames, the display also features an abundance of more than 70 Dahlia cultivars, and other festive plants commonly associated with the season such as Narcissus, Azalea and Celosia.

Usher in good luck this Chinese New Year with a spectacular Fu medallion at the entrance of Flower Dome. Then stroll past a landscape akin to a Chinese painting, dotted with peach blossoms, red-crowned cranes and a pavilion. Finally, make a grand entrance through the magnificent archway placed front and centre, and catch up with the rat, the first to reach the Jade Emperor by outwitting the other 11 zodiac animals.

There will be a variety of performances on the grounds during the Open House. For an entrance fee of $2, visitors could tour selected function rooms in the Istana building and view a special display of gifts presented to the President and the Prime Minister. There are also guided tours of the Istana building, conducted by the Preservation of Sites and Monuments (PSM) volunteers. Istana souvenirs are also sold at the Open House. All proceeds from the sale of the souvenirs and the entrance fees collected are donated to charity.

A wise old man holds the key to repelling the Nian, and reminds them of the importance of the village's history and traditions. But will the villagers be able to learn from his wisdom and experience, and to put aside their differences to unite and fight the beast together?

Discover the possible futures of Singapore 200 years from now through a series of immersive installations, meditative spaces, films, paintings and sculptures. Inspired by the work of Singaporean writer and poet Alvin Pang, 2219: Futures Imagined marks this year’s Singapore Bicentennial by looking two centuries into the future.

While we cannot be entirely sure what is to come, each section of this exhibition hinges on the scientific certainty that changes in our climate will require us all to adapt. This massive global transformation will act as a backdrop, upon which Singapore’s daily life, communities, cultures and traditions will evolve and change.

I-Opener features the aesthetic and sensory play-worlds co-created by individuals with various disabilities, and also without. It invites kids aged 1 to 12 to explore their senses through play and the arts.


As we all know, the senses - sight, touch and hearing all play an important role in a child’s discovery of the world as well as their social-emotional development. But more than that, this exhibition DIFFERS from Playeum's previous exhibitions in that instead of just introducing the art of play to kids, it allows kids to step into the world of those with special needs and experience the way how they interact, play and sense the world around them.
