I have no idea when it all began, but Ale has taken a great deal of interest in a little pink piggie who goes by the name of Peppa.
Yes, a little pig and she has a little brother named George who loves dinosaurs by the way. As for Peppa Pig's parents, they are named - wait for it - Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig. How do I know all these? I have to credit Ale for that, as she
forced cajoled me into watching a few episodes of Peppa Pig online.
And I think I know where the cartoon's appeal lies - it is great wholesome fun for the family to enjoy watching together. Somehow, the humor and sweetness keep Ale (and even the boys on some occasions!) glued and she always love seeing the funny situations Peppa and her family get into... not to mention the fact that she adores predicting when Peppa will be jumping into muddy puddles. It's in every episode, if you must know.
But nothing could have prepared Ale for the invasion of Peppa Pig toys in our home - and all these being delivered on my Birthday too. Which goes to show that you know you are a parent when your kids receive more presents, even on your birthday!
For some reason I cannot fathom, Ale not only loves watching Peppa Pig cartoons, she also loves watching videos of people playing with Peppa Pig toys on YouTube! So you can probably imagine her utter joy when she realized she would be able to re-create some of Peppa Pig's scenes on her own with these adorable toy sets.
Of course, one cannot tell a story without any Peppa Pig toy figures so the Mummy Twin Figure Set (Mummy Pig & Peppa; S$18.90) and Daddy Twin Figure Set (Daddy Pig & George; S$18.90) are a must. But of all the toy sets, the ONE toy that stood out for Ale was the Peppa Playhouse (S$59.90), a lovely replica of Peppa Pig's house in the cartoon series.
Needless to say, Ale did not need any invitation to free the toys from their paper packaging... and set them up nicely for play too!
The Playhouse opens up to reveal several rooms that all kids will be familiar with, and with furniture and a staircase too.
I like the fact that it can be folded up, storing all the loose bits inside. It is also not too huge and light enough for Ale to lug around - perfect to bring along for holidays to keep her company too.
Initially, I thought that Ale would be bored after playing with it for while, but I have to say, I was amazed at how much time she actually spent while playing with it. That, and all the stories that she conjured up... like how Daddy Pig drives Peppa and George to school every morning in their Peppa Car (S$29.90).
Personally, I loved the Peppa Classroom Playset (S$39.90) which came complete with desks and chairs, a chalkboard, 3 of Peppa's classmates and their teacher Madame Gazelle.
Ale would pretend she is Peppa while the rest her classmates in Nursery school, and will then go on to role-play her time in school. It's hilarious just to sit some distance away from her and listen to her goofy stories, sometimes she will even imitate her teacher's voice too! Lol.
So I guess it is safe to say she absolutely adores her Peppa Pig toy sets, even more so since it included a Peppa Swing Playground Playset (S$39.90) too. Just look at the fun she had!
Well, turned out that the boys saw her having so much fun with the playsets that they too wanted a slice of the action. And look who was fuming when the boys barged in uninvited.
Siblings - you either love them or loathe them, no? But after the boys asked nicely, the monkies were playing together once again and making up sillier stories by the minute.
Like how Daddy Pig's butt was too big to fit in the bathtub so he had to go bathe outside. And all three looked straight at me at that instant. Riiiight.
ANYWAY, one of the other Peppa toys that caught both the wifey's and Ale's fancy was the Princess Peppa Stick-On Felt (S$19.90) which comes with a felt board and 28 felt images from a Princess Peppa to a Castle and Dragon. For its price, I have to say this one offers the best value of the lot. The playtime opportunities are limitless as Ale makes up a different story every time she plays with it.
The board and the felt images are of high quality and this is just such a great set to take along in the car, or on flights. Just keep the felt pieces in a bag and it'll be perfect to keep a child entertained for ages!
Or if you have a toddler who just cannot seem to sit still, then the Peppa Muddy Puddles Playmat (S$59.90) will be a god-send.
The interactive playmat features four different play modes - Colour & Shape, Characters, Help Find Peppa and Where? Choose a mode and follow Peppa's instructions to collect shapes or numbers... OR just simply follow Peppa's lead and jump straight into the muddy puddles in the middle! Perfect for toddlers who are just venturing into the world of shapes, colours and numbers.
Overall, I think Ale still loves the Peppa Pig toy playsets most. She spends most of the nights playing with them before bedtime - understandably. Now, why do I get the feeling that she will be asking for more playsets to complement her collection???
