I'm one month old!

No comments :
Today is Ashton's first month party or what the Chinese term as full moon party. Full moon party... haha, this sounds like some happening party happening at the beach in Ibiza with booze, bikini clad girls and all. But no, this full moon party is held at our home... with pretty girls in attendance, no doubt :)

Ashton's face seems to have changed so much, from a squashed, wrinkled, prune like, bluish newborn just out from the tummy to one soft, pink, handsome face of a little boy. He has a rather boyish look, I feel.

He's got really small hands and feet but with really long nails, somewhat like that of a girl. When he's hungry, his nails are his "weapons", scratching mummy everywhere. However, we were told by the nurses that we shouldn't cut them at this point in time, as it will peel off by themselves. Nature is really amazing. The self peeling mechanism is just so that we do not cut his fingers accidentally, I suppose.

His feet are so adorable too with toes that looks like pudgy little balls from underneath.

He's got a mass of brown, fine hair that daddy nevey fails to comb it in funny styles when he bathes him.

He makes funny noises when he is picked up as if he's telling us that he likes our hugs.

His forehed and chubby cheeks are so irresistably kissable. So are his small rosebud lips.

I love holding him and watching him sleep and looking at him stretch and be wide awake.

Hmmm, guess I just love everything about him and I feel so lucky for both baby and Kel :)

Happy baby!

No comments :
Ash is a really happy baby! It's really easy to make him smile... especially so in the morning. Perhaps his happiness stems from the fact that he is easily satisfied. As long as he is full and has enough sleep, he is a happy baby :)

Soem pictures of happy Ashton captured below:

Sunshine after the rain

No comments :
We went to visit the paed this morning. It was a scare for nothing. Apparently, the nurse miscommunicated the readings of the results to us.

The readings which she claimed was high was actually that of the bilirubin level. Duh, of course the reading is high since he is jaundiced.

In any case, so long as he is healthy, that's all we need! Now, I truly understand the importance of good health in a kid, it doesn't matter that he is not exceptionally gifted, talented or bright, all I need is for my son to be healthy.

One colleague of mine once told me, to be normal is in itself a blessing. I couldn't agree more!

Milk here, there, everywhere

No comments :
No one ever tells me that breastfeeding is that messy. Books never mentioned that milk might squirt into baby's eyes even before he had the chance to latch on, or that I'll wake up in the middle of the night with huge patches on the pyjamas and bedsheets!! Boobies should come with on/off switch!!!

Mummy and baby had worked out a comfortable breastfeeding schedule and Ash is learning to suckle really well! My smart baby (hehe... I'm sure this is what all parents claim!) The best thing is... Ash only wakes to feed once a night.. what an angel!!!

Some pics of Ash to share:

Look how scrawny my legs are

Now I see you, next I don't

Liver Function Test

No comments :
Kel's mum observed that Ash's jaundice seemed to have worsened and asked that we bring him to the paed for a check-up. True enough at the paed, they found that his bilirubin level had increased.

The paed gave us two options, to send Ash for a Liver Function Test to assure ourselves that his liver is fine or to wait for another week, and if his jaundice level is still not down, then go for the test. We decided that Ash should just go for the test now, so that all will have a peace of mind.

At the lab, the nurse took three vials of Ash's blood via his small little hands. So poor thing, the veins in his hands are so tiny and frail and he had to be subjected to such pain at this young age. At this point, I have half a mind to stop breastfeeding cos ironically, breastmilk does cause jaundice in some infants.

Instead of having a peace of mind that we wished for, the nurses called during late evening to inform that the test results has returned with abnormally high readings, which could indicate some malfunctioning of Ash's liver. The worse thing is that tomorrow is a public holiday and we can only get to see the paed on Mon.

This seems like the longest weekend ever. The waiting is worse than the feeling I get when waiting for my exam results.

Keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

My first buddy

No comments :
Hey all,

Let me introduce you to my first buddy.... Baileys!!! He's a really friendly dog and it seems that he loves me too!!!

Daddy introduced me to him by letting him sniff at me. Seems that he has accepted me. When I cry, Baileys would sit at the foot of my play pen or saorong to comfort him. Hmmm.... he;s really gentler that what I had imagined when I heard him bark when I was in my womb home. I like him!

Admitted to hospital

No comments :
It's a sad day today. Ash went for his routine neonatal checkup and was told that his jaundice level had worsened. It is now 16.3 mg/dl. When he was discharged, it was about 10 mg/dl. Dr Ong asked that he be admitted for photo-therapy session.

Seeing him placed under the blue light, stripped to nothing except for a pair of "sunglasses", tears just welled up involuntarily. He looked so tiny and helpless. Wish I could have taken his place. Would he miss us being all alone in the hospital?

At that instant, I realised that I love him loads! I myself was surprised that I'm so attached to him in a mere 7 days. He means the world to me!

Looking on the bright side, we can have uninterrupted sleep for 2 nights!

Yellow alert!

No comments :
Day two at home. I had a good night last night. I fell asleep at about 10pm, after feeding and with lullaby playing in the background.

Rise and shine... the day is fine and guess what, I've got to go sun tan today. Dr Ong, my paediatrician says that I've got slight jaundice and asked that I go for sun-tanning every morning and evening.

Grandma brought me to the roof top garden for sun-tanning in the morning and daddy brought me for a walk in the eveing. I'm going to be a hunk with all this tanning, small, chubby and tnned :) Not too bad, I get to see the trees and hear the birds chirping during my tan sessions too. What a beautiful day.

This is my favourite sun-tanning pose... and sleeping pose for that matter.

My fav pose at the moment. See how big the newborn diapers are on me!

My amby cot doubling as my tan chair when the day is not too fine. Silly mummy forgot to cut out the hospital tag on my arm!!

Home Sweet Home

No comments :
After 3 nights in the hospital nursery, I have to say goodbye to my other friends and head home. Though I'm a bit apprehensive, but at the same time very eager to see how my new home looks like. I know how it sounds like though, have heard the sounds when I was in my womb home.

The nurses briefed mummy on how to take care of me, then they carried me, together with mummy, daddy and grandma accompanying along, to the car. Now, we're heading home....

Hey, the music emitting from the radio in the car sounds familiar, that's daddy's ah-beng music. Haha, the first sense of familiarity :)

Below is a picture of my Amby Cot, courtesy of Uncle Yippy (one of daddy's best buddies). It sure looks like a modernised sarong. Hmmm, one sleep in it, and I can tell you, it feels heavenly. It feels exactly like when I was in my womb home, all snug and secured.

Haha, cos I'm so tiny at the moment, the cot looks quite huge with me in it :)

Star for the day

No comments :
That's Uma below. She's the one that taught mummy how to deliver nice warm yummy milk to me. She's a really nice aunty!

Today, Aunty Uma came into mummy's room and asked if daddy was willing to demonstrate bathing me at the parentcraft class this afternoon. (The parent craft class is for new parents). Daddy sportingly obliged. Whoa, that means I'll be a star and so is daddy. Okay, I put all my trust in daddy and promise I wouldn't make it too diffcult for him ... heheh :P

Ashton Ang is my name??

No comments :
Hi all.

Hmmm... this place called earth is really strange. It's so much noiser and brighter than my earlier womb home. I also hear many frens in the same room as me. Strange, seems that they cry when they are wet or hungry. Maybe that's what I should do too. After trying out for a few times, I realise that that's how I tell the nice nurses to bring me to mummy for some nice warm milk... yummy!

I have so many visitors and pressies these past few days. They all coo at me and call me Ashton. Hmmm.... maybe that's my name.... Ashton Ang. Yeah, now I've got a name! I like the name!

All cleaned up!

Daddy keeps taking photos of me... I'll be naughty and foil his plan!

Papparazzi alert! Shield the face!

Dr Chang came in this morning and explained to mummy that I was "forceped" out as my head was too big to fit into her pelvis. That's why I have the mark on my forehead. Everyone was wondering if that's my birth mark. Better take a pic of that quickly as Dr Chang says that it will fade with time...

See the Harry Porter mark on the left forehead!

Hello Planet Earth!

No comments :
(Blogs written in blue are from baby's perspective)

Hello everyone! I'm Ashton Ang, born into this world on 3 Jan 05, 8.08am weighing in at 2.915 kg and measuring 48cm. Actually, I'm not suppose to "report for duty" this early, only on the 6 Jan. But, being the cheeky monkey, I danced less in mummy's tummy the last week. That got mummy, daddy and the the doc worried, and they decided to have me out earlier. So here I am, hello Planet Earth!

By the way, mummy and dadday said that I cried really really loud in the delivery room!!! That shows that my lungs are really really strong!!!!

First pix of me!

I'm winking at you!

The night before

No comments :
(Blogs written in lilac are from mummy's perspective)

I was tossing and turning in bed. I cannot get to sleep, knowing that I would be "opened up" the next morning, yet at the same time, I'm so excited at having to see my baby. Many times during the pregnancy, I have dreamt about my baby... at times, he is smiling at me, at times, he 's even babbling at me. Of course, there were times when the dreams were more like nightmares, when I sae baby being taken away from me. Tomorrow, I will see my baby at last! All this 9-month of anticipation.

Ashton is actually not due for c-section until 6 Jan. As he was not moving much in the womb, the gynae decided to have him out earlier since he is already of a good weight and considered full-term. Of course, we had no objections, anything for the good of baby. Also, 3 Jan is the day Kel propsoed to me... hehe, nice date to share with mummy :)

Here I am playing games on Kel's phone.... it's a simulation game on grooming the character to be a model. At least it keeps my thoughts off the op... On no, why did I opt for epidural c-section, really hope that I wouldn't feel any pain at all, as claimed. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed...

How it all started...

No comments :
(Mummy writes)

Ashton was conceived in April 04. No stormy nights stories... hehe. Yeap, this might sound boring, but his arrival was planned as we decided that it's time we had another person share our lives.

It's beyond my imagination how such a small little dot could grow into a human being. Although it was just a small dot, we were so excited when we had the pic of the scan to keep. Our first pix of our little one!

5 weeks old

Okay, this pix of Ashton looking more like a baby rather than a kidney bean. This pix was also very significant as it signifies the end of the first trimester when miscarriages were suppose to be quite high. In fact, I read that the rate was as high as 1 in 4. Was so glad to pass that milestone!

11 weeks old

This is my fave in stomach pix of Ashton. The gynae took this pix for us during the routine scan as Ash was so cooperative in posing so nicely. Too good a chance to be missed and the gynae couldn't resist taking this pic and giving to us FOC. Hehe, really nice man!!

See his round chubby cheeks and long eyes... how like mummy!
